BY ERNIE SEGARS The Practical Nursing Pro gram is now in its second year at the Bailey Memorial Hospital in Clinton and preparations are being made for the third year. The program is designed to pro vide private instruction for those who want to enter the medical profession but may not have the time or the financial resources to go into some of the more advanced aspects of medicine. This course of instruction takes only one year, and the practi cal nurse is assured of a well paying position in an ever expand ing field. The cost of the program is very low when compared to the spiraling costs in education. The fee for the entire year should not exceed $100. This includes a $30 initial fee and also the items that must lx? purchased during the course. This includes uniforms, shoes, name pins, textbooks, and ball point pins. The applicant must meet certain requirements ttefore be ing admitted into the program. Men or women between the ages of 17 an 50 may enter the pro gram if they are citizens of the United States, have completed the equivalent of the tenth grade in high school, pass the apti tude test that is given, and have satisfactory personal interviews with the officials who adminis ter the course. The program lasts 52 weeks, and the participant is allowed five unexcused absences. There are two weeks’vacation a- vailable to the students, however. A recent law was passed that requires all practical nurses to have at least one year's formal training before they can leagally practice in the state.
