Some teen-agers are tattooing themselves, puncturing their skin with pens dipped in India ink. The doctor said, “They’re run ning a risk of infection if they puncture their skin. If more than coe person uses the same pen, they could be flirting with hepa- titus. The ink itself probably wouldn’t have much effect, one way or the other, but the pen presents risks which certainly aren’t worth the results.* COMMUNITY CENTER OPENS—A community and day care center open ed Monday in the old Putnam House on Florida Street across from Com- m u n i t y Cash Supermarket. The building will house a Child Devel opment Center for 35 children rang ing in ages from three to five years, an apartment for the homemakers of the Department of Public Welfare and quarters for other agencies concern ed with welfare, poverty and other such causes for the betterment of the community. The center is spon sored by the Laurens County Com munity Action, Inc., and funded by the federal Office of Economic Op portunity. We have plenty of time to make the necessary changes before this goes into effect with the election of 1970.* Previously, the state senator weilded most of the authority in his county. With reapportion ment, however, many counties were left without a resident sena tor. Laurens County is in a three- county senatorial district which shares two senators, neither of whom, is from Laurens County. The County Council bill is an effort to set up more home rule within Laurens County. The legislation was introduced by Reps. David Taylor and Paul Culbertson of Laurens. During the months Laurens County has been without a resident senator, Taylor and Culbertson have shouldered many of the respon sibilities previously carried by the state senator. The district’s two senators, Robert Lake of Whitmire and John D.
