Miss Ruth Sloan Todd, Mr. Edwin Shealy Wed Miss RuthSloanToddwas mar ried to Edwin Irvin Shealy of Jo anna Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Associate Reformed Presby terian Church. She is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. JosephSloan Todd of 606 S. Broad St. The bride was graduated from Erskine College in 1968 with a B. A. degree in biology. She taught at Wade Hampton High School in Greenville the past year. Mr. Shealy, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lee Shealy of Laurens Street in Joanna, earned an A.B. degree in English from Newberry College in 1969. Mrs. Andy Hubbard Barnett of Clemson, sister of the bride, was matron of honor; the broom’s father was best man. The Rev. Zeb C. Williams of ficiated. Mrs. Thornton Stewart served as organist, and Harry Bolick III sang. The bride wore her mother’s dress of ivory satin and lace. The long sleeves were edged in lace ruffles, and the skirt was ended in a train. She carried a Psalm book covered in satin and dating to the mid 1800s; it was also carried by her mother and sister. A reception was given in the church hall. Cunningham-Brooks Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cunning ham of Route 1, Clinton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Alice Virginia, to Richard Van Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Brooks of Route 4, New port, Tenn. Miss Cunningham received a B.S. degree in business education from Winthrop College and is presently employed by Tennessee Eastman Company in Kingsport, Tenn. Mr. Brooks received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineer ing from the University of Tennessee and a M.S. degree from Georgia Institute of Tech nology. He is a member ofTau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Fraternity and the American So ciety of Mechanical Engineers. He is also employed by Tennessee Eastman Comnany. The wedding will take place on August 3 at Rocky Springs Pres byterian Church in Laurens. About People You Know Mrs. George Watts Copeland and George T. Copeland spent Sunday afternoon in Columbia visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. Elbert Jones and family. * * * Mrs. R. M. League and Mrs. Grace Connor went to the Green- ville-Spartanburg Airport Sun day to see Paul League off for a three weeks trip to Europe. Paul was chosen as one of the 60 news papermen in the U.S. to be given a courtesy trip to the Common Market countries. He is editor and publisher of the Seneca Her ald Tribune. His son also accom panied him. * * * Miss Liszy Lou Young, Mississippi Drive, has as house guests, her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Rye of Aber deen, Miss. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Sanders and son, Davy were In Norfolk last weekend to visit Lt Marvin L. Sanders and family. The trip was made especially tor the birthday of their granddaughter, MicheUe. * * * Mrs. Olin Bell will return home this week from Greenville General Hospital where she has been a patient for several days. Mrs. James I. Adair ofGreen- ville is here visiting Mrs. A. C. Spencer and her mother, Mrs. Emmie McNahan. * * * Mr. A. M. Greenwood is pre sently residing at the Laurens County Nursing Center, Laurens. * * * Mrs. Ethel Pitts, Mrs. Joe Bonds, and S. A. Pitts Sr. at tended the Commencement Ex ercises of Rock Hill HighSchool, Firday night, May 30th. Mrs. Pitts’ grandson, Michael Wayne Jarvis was a member of the graduating class. * * * Mrs. Johnny Mason has re turned from Greenville General Hospital where she underwent surgery. She is convalescing at home. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Jim Daniel were in Honea Path last week due to the death of his grandfather, James T. Daniel. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Jim Chaney and little daughter of Griffin, Ga., visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Chaney this week. * * * Mrs. G. A. Burton is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Personals Miss Kristi King was a recent graduate of Brenau College, Gainesville, Ga. Attending the graduation were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. King Jr. and her grandmother, Mrs. W. G. King Sr. They were joined there by Sandy Cruickshanks of Gainesville, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. I A. Ford of Avon Park, Fla., have been visit ing Mrs. Eugene Hitt for several days. Mrs. Hitt is Mrs. Ford’s mother. * * * Sandy Cruickshanks, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. King Sr. is spending the summer here at tending summer school at Pres byterian College. ♦ * * Mrs. Ronnie Tiller and little daughter, Kelly are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Tiller. Mr. Tiller left last week for Vietnam for a year’s tour of duty with the U. S. Army. Mrs. Tiller and Kelly will leave next week for a stay with her parents in Colquitt, Ga. * * * Mr. and Mrs. James Rainey who have been making their home in San Diego, Calif, have been transferred to Jacksonville, Fla. where Mr. Rainey will be sta tioned at the Naval Base with U.S. Navy. * * + In addition to the other piano pupils of Mrs. Allen Young, pre sented in recital last week were Steve Bishop, Shane Owens and Mrs. W. E. Bishop. * * * Mrs. Ethel Pitts and Mrs. Joe Bonds were in ColumbiaSat- urday for graduation exercises at Columbia College. Their niece, Mary Pitts was a member of the class. The week before they, a- long with S. A. Pitts attended graduating exercises at Rock Hill High School. Mrs. Pitts’ grand son, Mike Jarvis was a member of the class. # * * Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Norris have returned from Richmond, Va., where they visited their son- in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Bill Parks. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adams Timmons of Winnsboro, S. C. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a wedding gown of candlelight peau de soie and re-embroidered Alencon lace. The bodice featured a por trait neckline and short sleeves and was accented with motifs of lace interspersed with seed pearls. The panel effect skirt was highlighted in the back by a flat bow and ended in a chapel train. She wore a finger tip veil of imported silk illusion attached to a Dior bow embroidered in pearls. Mrs. Lloyd McCrary Kapp of Columbia, sister-in-law of the bride, was matron of honor and Miss Ann Mary Stirling, also of Columbia, was maid of honor. Bridal attendants were Miss Eu genia Childs Clarkson and Mrs. George David Wilson, both of Columbia, and Mrs. James Alvin Brothers of Matthews, NX. The attendants wore floor length gowns of turquoise Saki featur ing ruffles at the bateau neckline and the hemline. They carried bouquets of mixed garden flowers. Mr. Theodore Trezevant Tim mons, brother of the groom, was the best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Robert Parks Kapp Jr., brother of the bride, Mr. Bernard Boyd Meng, HI, Mr. David Therral Collier, all of Columbia, and Mr. James Michael Oliver of Greenville.
