HONOR GRADUATES ADDRESSES CLUB On Friday evening, friends gathered at the home of Mrs. Daisy Hearst, South Bell Street, Clinton, for a party in honor of graduates of the family of the year 1968-69. Among those present were Mrs. Evelyn Blakely of Buffalo, N.Y. who came to Clinton and Laurens to see her son, Willie Blakely, graduate from Sanders High School of Sanders, Laurens. Attending also was Simmie Gill iam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Gilliam of Greenville, S. C. He graduated from Bryson High School of Fountain Inn, S. C. Others included were Mary and Linda Richard, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Richard; Ernes tine and Edward Brown, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Brown; Leroy Gilliam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gilliam of Clinton, S. C., who received his B.A. de gree from Benedict College of Columbia, S. C. Refreshments were served. 'Baby Sitter' Film Available “The Baby Sitter’ is the title of a new 16 mm motion picture film produced by the Bell Tele phone system for public use free of charge. Southern Bell manager, Ray Fernell, said the new film dra matizes the proper techique of baby-sitting with 30 points on the baby-sitter’s responsibili ties; parents responsibilities; baby-sitting tips, the film was produced in cooperation with the American Medical Association, National PTA, American Aca demy of Pediatrics, and National Safety Council. Fernell said that the film isa- vailable free of charge through the local telephone company busi ness office, telephone 833-0100. The Busy Bee Club of Hebron Baptist Church, Clinton, cele brated its 48th anniversary Sun day night, June 1, 1969 at 7:30 p.m., with the president, Mrs. Laura H. Thomas, presiding. The president gave words of welcome and Mrs. A. L. Pruitt gave the history of the year, 1968. The pastor, Rev. W. D. Coker, presented an inspiring message cm “Mastering Discouragement." Some of the highlights of the mes sage were that we must learn the techniques and methods of mastering discouragement; no one likes the tool of discourage ment for it is one of the Chris tian’s deadly enemies. “We as club members, have come too far to retreat, we must go on. Whatever might befall you, whatever task is your goal, fol low your leader and God will pro vide,” Rev. Coker told the group, tion. She wishes to have you con tinue praying for her. The receipts of the evening were $54.60. GUESTS MRS. WATSON Mrs. Adeline Watson of S. Bell Street Circle, Clinton is home after spending three months in the hospital at Greenwood. Mrs. Watson is to return to the hos pital on June 16. She wishes to express deep appreciation to her many friends for donating blood and for their prayers for her dur ing the time of her hospitaliza- Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Hunter, Mrs. Abegale Byrd, Mrs. Annie Moore and Mrs. Ida Jane Davis were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs.JohnGriffinMoore, Sunday, June 1 at 236 S. Bell St. MR. JAMES DIES Mr. Roosevelt James died at his home on W. Centennial St. last Tuesday night. His death came after long illness. Funeral service was conducted Sunday, 2 p.m. at Friendship AME Church, where he served as a trustee and leader of Circle No. 1. Rev. W. E. Crumlin delivered the main eulogy, assisted by the Rev. S. C. Dendy, Douglas McCoy and W. L. Hunter. Mr. James operated business establishments, here in Clinton, for many years. He was widely known by friends who usually re ferred to him as “Rose”.
