Women's World Hayes- Haupfear '> Immediately following the evening prayer service at Hurri cane Baptist Church on Feb. 12, Miss Peggy Sue Hayes became the Ijride of Sgt. Roy Guy Haupfear H. The couple came down the aisle together, unattended, sweet in simplicity and informality. The vows were spoken before the groom’s pastor, Rev. J. C. Conoly. The wedding music was provided by Mrs. Allen Young. A reception was given at the home of the groom’s parents. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Hayes Jr., of Joanna. She attended Clinton and Joanna Schools and is employed with Greenwood Mills. Sgt. Haupfear is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Haupfear of Rt 2, Clinton. He is a 1966 graduate of Clinton High School, he recently returned from 18 months active duty with the Air Force in the Far East. He will be stationed at Wright Patterson, AFB, Dayton, Ohio. After a brief wedding trip to Alabama the couple will be at home with the groom’s parents. Camp Fires Set Supper The Camp Fire covered dish supper for Camp Fire Girls in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades will be held at the Presbyterian Col lege dining hall on March 6 at 7 p.m. Both parents and the girl are invited to come and bring a covered dish. All Camp Fires are urged to come. Bill Shields To Speak Under sponsorship of the Gar den Club Council of Clinton, a program, “Work of Art,* will be presented by William M. Shields, 3:30 p.m. on March 12 at the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton. While art is as varied as the life from which it springs, the true “work of art*, whether in flower arranging, landscaping or painting, gives depth and mean ing to some aspect of life. With color slides and groupings of models, Mr. Shields will demon strate ways in which the portrait photographer, painting with light, makes use of devices common to the old masters, composition, the arrangement of the objects with in a picture, color, form, and texture. Mr. Shields’ models for the program will be Mrs. James L. Walker, Jimmy, Bill, George and Andy Walker, of Clinton. William M. Shields wears the coveted Blue and Gold Ribbon, symbol of the combined degrees of Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsmen, for eminence in professional photo graphy. He is past-president of the South Carolina Professional Photographers Association and of the Southeastern Profession Pho tographers Association; past- chairman, Board of Governors and Honorary Life Member of the Southeastern Professional Pho tographers Association; National Councilman, Portrait Division, Professional Photographers of America, Inc.; recipient, Nat ional Award; a member, A- merican Society of Professional Photographers and, by invitation, Cameracraftsmen of America and the British Institute of Inc. Photographers. This meeting will be held March 12 (Wednesday) at 3:30 p.m. at Friendship Room of the First Presbyterian Church on Carolina Ave. The public is in vited to attend this program. Meetings ***★★*★*★**★*** Newcomers Club The Newcomers Club of Clin ton, which had its organisational meeting on January 21, 1969, held its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 18 with 15 individuals pre sent. The following officers have been elected: president, Mrs. Kir ley Coxwell; vice-president, Mrs. Carron Waller; secretary, Mrs. Mary Sutherland; treasur er, Mrs. Willie Harrill. Several service projects were discussed and are under consid eration to be decided on at the next regular meeting, March 18. Mrs. Marshall Hosts Actaeans The Actaeon Book Club held its February meeting with Mrs. W. L. Marshall Jr., at Boxwood Gar dens on Feb. 28th at 12:30 p.m. When all guest were present, fruit punch was served and then all were invited in for lunch. Lovely arrangements of daf fodils were on each table. Fifteen members were present and one guest, Mrs. Alfred L. Bixler. After lunch a business meeting was called to order by Mrs. Robert E. Wysor. Ushering B&PW Host Tri-City Meet The Clinton Business and Pro fessional Woman’sClub will meet Tuesday, March 11 at the Mary Musgrove Hotel at 7:30 p.m. At this time the club will host a tri-city meeting consisting of Greenwood, Laurens and Clinton members. Mrs. Grace Connor, will present the program. Mrs. Earl Stewart, Mrs. W. W. Harris and Mrs. Grace Connor will be in charge of decorations and hospitality. The matron of honor was dressed in an emerald green crepe empire gown. After a wedding trip to Charleston the couple will live at 713-A South Harper Street in Lau rens. The Sunbonnet Gar den Club met on Monday afternoon, Feb. 24, at the home of Mrs. H. D. Payne. After the business session, Mrs. Marshall Brown introduced the program, which consisted of an informal flower show, with “Dreams’ as the theme. Many unique and attractive arrange ments were displayed and inter preted by the members of the club. At the conclusion of the show, a delightful buffet was served. Miss Martha Linda Vinson be came the bride of Mr. Joe David Johnson on January 11 at 7 o’clock in the First Baptist Church of De- Funiak Springs, Fla., with the Rev. W. O. Wilham officating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Vinson of DeFuniak Springs and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hut son Johnson of Aiken, and the grandson of Mrs. L. D. Edmonds of Joanna. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory satin and alencon lace gown, de signed in an empire and a-line fashion. The empire bodice was overlaid with lace and featured a scoop neckline and elbow length sleeves. The a-line skirt was partially covered with alencon lace heavily beaded with cry stals and seed pearls. A cathe dral length matilla of French net bordered with a wide band of lace with motifs of alencon lace on the train completed her attire. Her bouquet was a large white orchid surrounded by a cascade of miniature carnations and leaves, and carried on a white satin Bible. Wearing an empire style gown of cranberry red and hot pink velvet and crepe, Mrs. Emma Jo Champion of Montgomery^ Ala., was matron of honor. Attendants were Mrs. Nita Gainey, Ozard, Ala., Miss Janice Peacock, De Funiak Springs, Miss Martha Spears, Montgomery, Ala., She lia Clements, Lockhart, Ala., Mrs. Betty Feezor and Miss San dra Johnson, sisters of the groom, of Aiken. They carried nosegays of white mums. Debra Champion was flower girl and Sean Johnson, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer. Mr. LeGrande Johnson of Cocoa Beach, Fla. was best man for his brother. After a short Florida honey moon, the couple is residing at 1500 Harmon Dr., Valdosta, Ga. Legion Auxiliary Hears Civil Defense Plans Mrs. Alice R. Davidson Lau rens County Chairman of Civil Defense was the guest speaker at the meeting of Unit 56 American Legion Auxiliary. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Charles Buice. Mrs. L. S. Red dick, program chairman, intro duced Mrs. Davidson. Mrs. Davidson is Director of Laurens County Dept, of Public Welfare. It is with the aid of this office she is setting up a Civil Defense system for the county. Laurens County has not had a Di rector of Civil Defense since 1964. Mrs. Davidson stated that by having a county chairman and county organization the county is eligible for many state and feder al benefits. At present there is a study being made of shelters a- vailable in case of disaster. When the study is completed a map will be made up. showing where shel ters are for the different sec tions of the county. Plans are being made for each family to have a copy of this map. Chapman Unit His torian gave the highlights of the organizing of the American Le gion Post 56 in 1919 and the Auxi liary Unit 56 in 1930. The American Legion was created March 1919 and are ob serving their 50th anniversary this year. In observance of this anniversary their “Gift To The Nation* will be a permanent light ing system at the Tomb of the Unknowns and the facade of the Memorial Amphitheater at Ar lington National Cemetery. The local Unit voted to send a con tribution to this project. Mrs. Henry Young and Mrs. H. J. Pitts gave a report of the annual meeting of District 7 held in Greenville on February 22.
