CRUMLIN The regular meeting of the Martha Dendy PTA was post poned during the month of Jan uary; however, the group held a called meeting Monday evening to discuss matters and problems of vital interest to the school and community. The main item on the group’s agenda was a discussion of the National School Lunch Program. Many parents expressed keen in terest, not only in their own sons and daughters being able to eat hot lunches but children who cannot afford to pay for lunches. The parents were told of the present program of operat ing hot lunches and what pro visions have been made for free and reduced-price lunches to persons who cannot afford the re gular cost of meals. Some par ents expressed concern about the breakfast program since a num ber of parents work and do not always provide their children with breakfast before leaving for school. Mrs. Lois Davis, president of the PTA, presided. She announced the regular meeting of the or ganization on Monday, February 3, 7:30 p.m., Martha Dendy School. Willingham, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be the Chaplain of the Laurens’ District Hospital this week. Mr. Joseph H. Shealy, for many years a resident of Cross Hill, passed away last Wednesday in a Laurens’ nursing home. Mrs. Shealy died late last year. Several friends from this community at tended the funeral services at the Waterloo Methodist Church on Friday morning. ^IrL G. E. Boazman recently visited Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Wat kins in Newberry. Friends note with interest the engagement of Miss Clara Isa bella Hill to Joseph Max Hitt of Greer,S. C. Both are members of the faculty of Union High School. A late fall wedding is planned. J. J. George has returned home from the Laurens’ District Hos pital where he was a patient for some time. Mrs. R. B. Segars, Lindy, and Mrs. Hayne Workman Jr. were in Greenville Saturday to see “Dr. Doolittle”. Among the college students home for the weekend were John ny Livingston of Clemson Uni versity, Johnny Hipp of Erskine, and Ernie Segars of Wofford. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cunning ham of Greenville visited Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Hipp during the weekend. The January Bible study of the book of “Isiah" for the adults will be held at the First Baptist | Church Monday through Thursday of this week. CALLED TO ARMY Walter Moore Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Moore Sr. of Clinton, has been called to re port for Army training on Feb. 6. He is to report to Ft. Jackson for basic training. Owens Addresses Thomwell Class Attorney Tench Owens ofClin- ton addressed the Civics Class at Thornwell High School last Fri day. Owens discussed federal and state courts, explaining the or ganization and duty of each. He also explained how judges and court officers are selected. Following his talk, he held a question-and-answer session.
