C., December 19, 1968 Women's World Miss Vinson Engaged Mr. and Mrs. William Dawson Vmson, of De Fumak Springs, Fla., announce the engagement of their daughter, Martha Linda to Sgt. Joe David Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hutson John son, of Aiken, South Carolina. The wedding will be at 7 p.m. January 11 at the First Baptist Church in DeFumakSprings, Fla. The bride-elect is the grand daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Vinson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gugus E. Loski Jones. She is a 1966 graduate of Wal ton High School, DeFumak Miss Marguerite Dean McCar son was married to Hugh Fos ter Morgan, Jr. at the First Methodist Church, Laurens on December 18. Dr. R. Bryce Her bert performed the four o clock ceremony. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Trask McC arson of Lau rens. She was given in mar riage by her father. The bride s dress was an ori ginal gown of imported peau satin. It featured reembroidered alen- con lace in a princess silhouette, with a wide scalloped lace effect in front, and a high neckline. It was accented with small sa tin buttons and seed pearl loops down the lace panel. The grace- ful skirt was enhanced with a peau satin border and large motifs of lace. The dress was highlighted with a chapel train attached at the shoulder. Miss Mary Katherine Mc- C arson of Laurens, maid of honor, wore a dress of cara mel color velvet designed with a Jumper effect, gathered at the waist, with an inverted pleat at the back. The candelligfat satin blouse was designed with leg- on-mutton sleeves and roll col lar. Her flowers were ivory poin- settas with olive green streamer. TTchprs were James B. Cole- Springs, Florida and attended St Margaret's School of Nursing in Montgomery, Ala. The groom-elect is the grand son of Mr. Joe B. Johnson and the late Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. L. D. Edmonds of Joanna, and the late Mr. Edmonds. Fe is a 1965 graduate of Aiken High School and is presently with the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Tan Sin Nhut, Vietnam, where he is a jet air craft mechanic. e will return home January 1, and will be stationed at Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Fa. presented the nuptial music. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Foster Morgan, Sr. of Laurens. After a wedding trip to Gatlin- burg, Tenn. the couple will make their home in Clemson. King-Bryson Mr. and Mrs. James Milton King of 12 Kenmore Drive, Pied mont, announce the engagement of their daughter Sylvia Anne to James David Bryson Jr. of Clinton. The bride elect graduated from Carolina High School and Green ville Tech, and is now employed by Bigalow Carpet Company. Mr. Bryson is Airman First Class in the Air Force stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky and a graduate of Clinton High School. His parents Mr. and Mrs. James David Bryson Sr. live at 609 Musgrove Street, Clinton. The wedding date will be an nounced later. * * ♦ Party Honors Mrs. Word On Birthday Mrs. John Word of Livings ton St was honored on her eigh tieth birthday on Sunday. Enter taining her with a drop-in at their home were her son, David Word, Mrs. Word and granddaughter, Sue. Friends and neighbors called between the hour of 3:00 and4:00 o clock, many bringing gifts. The table held the decorated birthday cake and an arrange ment of white glads and mums, with bits of gold filler. The hostess served Christmas cookies, coffee and punch. Births ( BEATY Mr. and Mrs. David R. Beaty announce the birth of a daughter, Amelia Elizabeth, on December 16 at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Beaty is the former Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of Mrs. Hannah Hamilton of Clinton. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Oren F. Beaty. • * * BLACK WALNUT COOKIES 2* caps lifted flour 2 teaspoena baking ^ ^ powder 1 cap margarine to cap graaaiated sugar or firmly packed brawn sugar to tap dark com syrup 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cap Mack walaats. coarsely chopped Sift flour, baking powder and salt together Cream margarine and sugar Blend in com syrup Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition Mixture may appear cur dled. Stir in vanilla and walnuts, then mix in sifted dry ingredients. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in 375- degree (moderate) oven un til lightly browned. Makes about five dozen. For the program, Mrs. Connor chose only the unique or unusual customs of several coun tries with the Clinton and Laurens members par ticipating, often acting out the particular custom or ceremony. At a recent meeting of the Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Mrs. Grace Connor demon strates articles she has collected from various countries of the world she has visited. Laurens and Clinton members were hostesses when the group bald its luncheon meeting at the Mary Mus- Hamm-Massie Vows Spoken Mrs. Bessie T. Hamm of 205 Sumter St. and George Massie of Laurens were married on Nov. 25 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage in Joanna. Officiating at the ceremony was the Rev. Dr. Byron Harbin. The bride wore a dress of rose Irish linen trim with lace. Her bridal flower was a purple orchid. The couple w-as attended by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Taylor of Augusta, Ga. Mrs. Taylor wore a corsage of white carnations, a gift of the bride. A reception was given by Mrs. Harbin in the parsonage. She was assisted by Mrs. Janet Gard ner. The bride is employed at Whit ten Village, and Mr. Massie is employed at George Motor Cum- pany in Laurens. Out of town guests were Rev. and Mrs. Horace 1 amm and An gela and Anita of Knoxville, Tenn. Miles-Mitchum Mr. and Mrs. Ottie Miles of 710 North Main Street, Joanna announce the engagement of their daughter, Constance Miles to Mark Tracy Mitchum, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred F. Mitchum, of 306 Belair Road, Belvedere. A 1968 graduate of Clinton 1 igh School, Miss Miles is a sophomore at W'inthrop College. Mr. Mitchum is a 1968 grad uate of the North Augusta High School. He is an employe of the Kimberly-Clark Corporation and is a member of the United States Naval Reserve. They are planning a December wedding. Kindergarten Party Held The children ofthe First Pres byterian kindergarten enter tained their mothers at a Christ mas party Friday morning. The little hosts greeted their guests at the door and showed them the many colorful decora tions which were made and dis played by the children. Activities centered around a large Christmas tree trimmed with many unusual handmade bau bles. The boys and girls sang sev eral gay Christmas songs accom panied by Mrs. Frances Rowland at the piano. Then they served their mothers green and red punch and sugar cookies which they had prepared themselves. At the conclusion of the party, each child presented his mother with a decorative handprint in clay. Mrs. Frances Rowland, Mrs. Linda Wallace and Mrs. Barbara Frady assisted in serving and en tertaining. Miss Bradford To Wed Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bradford of Clinton announce the engage ment of their daughter, Carolyn, to James F. Medlin, son of Mrs. Dons Faye Medlin of Clinton. Miss Bradford is a graduate of Clinton \ igh School and is presently employed at King Con struction Co. Mr. Medlin also a Clinton High graduate is an Air man First Class, presently sta tioned at Biloxi, Miss.
