The Blue Hose completed their season last Thursday by bomb ing Newberry 42-7 in the tra ditional ThanksgivingDayBronse Derby battle. The conference win left PC with a 5-1 conference mark, the same as Lenoir Rhyne with whoa the Hose share the league champ ionship. Coach Gault said, “We were always optimistic about this sea son, sometimes maybe we were too optimistic, but we felt all along that we’d have a pretty good season. “We had thought that last yeai would be our year but we had so many injuries." “This year, we consistently played good football. We were a little slack on offense at the start of the season but we played consistently overall. The boys had a good attitude in practice. They didn’t go to extremes. We opened with a win and then had two losses but we didn’t pan ic. We came back with good games against good teams, Wofford and Elon.” “Our only bad game was a- gainst Appalachian, a very good team. The cold, wet weather seemed to have an adverse af fect on us although it didn’t bother Appalachian.” “Three of our four losses were to teams ranked in the top 22 among the nation’s small col leges. I still think we deserved to win the Furman game but that doesn’t change anything.” “We will lose some fine sen iors (13) this year but we try to prepare for that. Our big question now is how many non- seniors we’ll lose between now and next season because of acade mics, service or lack of money.” Against Newberry, P.C. rolled up a 28-0 halftime edge and in general dominated the game.
