He *as a native of Randolph, Abu, bat had lived in Clinton 32 rears. He was a son of the late tlr. and Mrs. Jess Smitherman, a retired railroad section fore man, and later worked fof "Clin ton and Joanna Mills. He was a member of FHeadship Baptist Church.* Surviving are two daughters, Urs. A. L (Vera) Harris of Atlanta and Mrs. J. A. (Daisy) Cothran of Clinton; a step daughter, Mrs. George (Inez) Burkett of Birmingham, Ala.; three sons, Mirk SmithermanJr. of Clinton, Rex Smitherman cf Detroit, Mich., andRaySmith- erman of Smyrna, Ga.; a step- s:n, Cecil Piigh of Birmingham; tv; brothers, Charlie and Mack Sm therman of Centerville, Ala. ; a3d a half-brother, Andy Smith erman of Centerville, Ala. Funeral services »ere held Tuesiday at Friendship Baptist Church v:tfc burial m Rosemont Cemetery. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bellview Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Phipps Mrs. Dora Parris Phipps, 54, of 188 Cypress St, died Friday in a local hospital. Funeral ser vices were conducted Sunday at Bellview Baptist Church with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. The wife of Isaac Herman Phipps Sr., she was a native of Newberry County bdt lived in Clinton for 21 years. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Dixon and Bessie Fisher Parris. Mrs. Barnes Mrs. Susie Brown Barnes, 72, s:fr f Mark Avery Barnes of PL Clinton, Laurens Highway, Sunday afternoon at the home f a daughter, Mrs. 0. L. Ste- ;hers Jr. S.-e was a native of Monroe, N.C. but had lived in Clinton st :( her life. She was a daugh ter f the late Perry Wesley and Sally Weathers Brown, a mem ber f Bellnew Baptist Church, and a teacher m the Primary and Degmaers Department Also surviving are another danrhter. Mrs. James A. Arnold f Hemingway; eight sons, Vir gil W.. Perry W., Charles W., Ernest B , Harley R., James A., Lewis F., and Clarence W. Banes of Clinton, and 20 grand- other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Lois) Rice of Clinton; two sons, Floyd and lerman Phipps Jr. of Clinton; wo sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Elsie) Seay of Enoree and Mrs. George (Lucy) Brown of Union; a bro ther, Bob Harris of Enoree; and 10 grandchildren. A. W. Mil am A. Wyman Milam, 40, of 107 Ferguson St died Thursday afternoon, Oct 10, at a local clinic after suffering an apparent heart attack. Mr. Milam was involved in an automobile accident shortly be fore his death. The investigat ing policeman said that Mr. Milam apparently lost control of his 1959 automobile and it hit the Beacon Drive-In about 2p.m. The policeman said Mr. Milam did not appear to be seriously injured in the accident but ap parently suffered an attack after the accident A lifelong resident of Laurens County, he was a son of Mrs. Clara Ward of Clinton and the Late Milton A. Milam Sr. Other survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Smith Milam; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Linda) Fuller of Greenville; a sister Mrs. Amanda M. Chandler of Augusta, Ga.; a brother, Mil- ton A. Milam Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; and a foster brother, A. Clark Meadors of Clinton. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Gray Funer al Home with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. Mrs. Gory Funeral services were con ducted Sunday for Mrs. Beatrice Gary, 45, who died Friday in a local hospital. Services were conducted at Antioch AME Church with burial in the church ceme tery. She was the wife of Willie Mac Gary and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Young of Clinton. Other survivors include a daughter, Miss Annie Pearl Gary of Clinton; two sons, Willie L. and James Dennis Gary of Clin ton; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Dowding and Mrs. Lorene Young of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Mary Pearl Browning of Green- boro, N.C.; and four brothers, Daniel Williams and James Young of Clinton, Willie E. Young of Washington, D.C., and Robert Young of Greensboro. Charlie Wyatt Funeral services were con ducted Monday for Charlie Wyatt, 58, of Route 1, Clinton, who died Saturday in a local hospital. Ser vices were conducted at Milam Road Church of God with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. Mr. Wyatt was a native of Cherokee County but lived in Clinton for 30 years. He was a son of the late John andCorida Green Wyatt and was employed by Lowman Lumber Co. for 23 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hattie Glenn Wyatt; a sis ter, Mrs. Mattie Harris of Clin ton; and three brothers, Harry Wyatt of Gaffney and Hamlett and Thomas Luther Wyatt of Clinton. Lutherans Hold Two Services In New Church Dr. E. B. Keisler, interim pas tor ofSt. John’s LutheranChurch, announces that except on Novem ber 3rd, his congregation will hold two identical services each Sunday morning, beginning next Sunday, October 20th, and con tinuing as long as they appear to serve a purpose. The hours will be 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. The Sunday Church School begins at 10. According to Dr. Keisler, the additional service each Sunday is held primarily for the con venience of those who have in dicated their desire to worship in the new Lutheran sanctuary but who do not wish to miss the worship service in their own ihurch. A coffee hour will be •bserved immediately following ■ach service. The church is located on the Greenwood Highway, just beyond the city limits. The public is invited.
