) \ "O THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C„ July 4, 196K—9 FROM ‘CRASH’ SCENE TO HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM . . . During Cinton’s Disaster Drill Last Week (Photos By Bill Quarles) Make-Up Artistry Adds Realism To Clinton Drill Archie Morgan uf Belton was the talk of Clinton’s ''disaster.* Morgan is a disaster make up specialist and lie was the man in charge of preparing the “in jured* in the disaster drill held last Thursday morning. About an hour liefore tha alarm was sounded, Morgan, who is vice president of the State Rescue Squad Association, went to the de signated disaster scene and l»e- gan preparing the 11 people who would tie the “victims” ofa simu lated plane crash. Using plastic wounds borrowed from the Army and some make up techniques he acquired at a schooMfrBaltimore, Md., Morgan transformed the volunteers into convincing injured persons. The first victim to arrive in the emergency room at the hos pital was so realistic looking that Dr. George Blalock had to take ■v & ' 4 u.. : ii ARCHIE MORGAN a close second look. He said, “At first glance, 1 wondered if we didn’t have a wreck victim who happened to come in before fhe drill vic tims arrived.” Dr. E. N. Sullivan lifted a sheet over one victim, probed at a plastic wound and got squirted with “blood” (red ink). The vic tim was holding a bulb which, when pressed, squirted the liq uid. Morgan had high praise for the way in which the Clinton drill was conducted. He said, “I’ve set up several of these drills around the state and I lielieve this one went off the smoothest of any I’ve seen. I was particularly impressed by the way the hospital (Bailey Me morial) handled the situation.” Over the past four years, 7.5 million new jobs have been created in the U.S. by private industry. This averages out to be more than 5,000 new jobs every day. People employed in the civilian labor force number about 86 million, a record high. DISASTER VICTIM’ IS REALISTIC . . .
