Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ber ry, Kay and Mike Berry of Fork Shoals visited Mrs. Berry’s mother, Mrs. Fred Bodie during the weekend. On Sunday the Berry family, Mrs. Bodie and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pitts and Donny at tended the wedding of Miss Sue Brock, niece of Mrs. Bo die, to Woodrow Koon in New berry. Kay Berry was in the wedding. Mr. David Word, Claude Trammell and Clyde Tram mell were among those in Co lumbia Monday evening of last week for the Hejaz-Omar Shrine meeting. Mr. Clyde Trammell and Mrs. Posey Taylor attended the Ameri can Institute of Plant Engin- eers in Atlanta, Ga. Thursday and Friday. Mrs. Mary Fallaw and Mr. and Mrs. “Pete'” Gaines ac companied Lt. and Mrs. Douglas Rippey and Lisa to Greenville on Tuesday of last week, where they boarded a plane "at the Greenville-Spar- tanburg Airport, to return to their home in Omaha. Nebra ska. following their visit here with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Dav is and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Moore were called to Spar tanburg Thursday due to the critical illness of Mrs. Davis’ and Mrs. Moore’s mother, Mrs B. C. Dickson. She is in the Spartanburg General Hos pital. Rev. and Mrs. M. J. Sand ers, Malcolm Sanders, Betty Jean and Billy Harvey, Mrs. heartfelt thanks... to those who worked tirelessly in my behalf ... to those who gave so generously of their time and talents ... to those who placed their confidence in me by giving me their vote. Mr. Caldwell joined them Friday evening, coming to attend the Great Falls-Pen- dleton High football game at Wilder Stadium. District Meeting At Lydia Church The Laurens District of Wo man s Auxiliaries of the Pen tecostal Holiness Churches will meet Monday night. Dec. 5 at the Lydia Pentecostal Holiness Church. Woman’s Club Enjoys Supper The Lydia Woman's Club held their annual November supper meeting on Thursday evening at Blazers on Lake Greenwood, with husbands as guests. Twenty-three enjoyed a delicious fish and chicken supper. The group were welcomed by the president, Mrs. Clyde Trammell. During a short business session the nominating com mittee was named and plans for the December Christmas party was made. A lovely vase was present- d to Mrs. B. P. Lark for her new home on Sunset Blvd. Mrs. Lark has been the treas urer of the club for several years. Thanksgiving Service Tonight A Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Lydia Bap tist Church tonight (Wednes day) at 7:30 p.m. V A11 members are urged to attend. Everyone is invited. 'City-Wide Thanksgiving Service Thursday At 10 o’clock Thursday morning. Thanksgiving Day, a Thanksgiving Day service will be held in the New Thorn- well Church. Rev. Zeb Williams of the A. R. P. Church will bring the message. It is hoped that many from all the Lydia churches will attend the service along with the Clinton City church es. HERBERT SPAUGH Some years ago I wrote a column on Thanksgiving Day. In it I said, “Thanksgiving Day ought to be Thingsgiv- ing Day.” A kindly linotype operator or proof-reader evi dently thought I had made a typographical error and straightened me out by mak ing it read, “Thanksgiving Day ought to be Thanksgiv ing Day." Well, that made sense, but it wasn’t what I was trying to say. We ought to save a little time some where on Thanksgiving Day to do a little “thinksgiving.” Of course between hunting, eating, footballing, perhaps going to church, there may not be too much time for thought. But ceratinly a few times a year we ought to sit and thjnk. If I am not mistaken, the words “think, , • , ' and “thank” have the same root. If we think rightly enough, we're bound to be thankful. Today I am thankful for many things: for the fact that I was born and reared in a Christian home where I early learned to know my Lord, and where I saw the Chris tian gospel preached as well as practiced by my parents. They gave me such a good foundation that I couldn’t throw a lot of it away when I went over Fool’s Hill, al though I tried. I am thankful that the passing years have increased my faith in my Lord and have brought me blessings according to my needs and beyond my desires. I am thankful that I am a minister of the Gospel of Jes us Christ; that the Lord led me to this in spite of the fact that I was determined not to be a minister, but a furniture manufacturer. It took Him some years to get it into my head ( however. I am thankful for friends without which life would be intolerable, and without whose help this Column would never have continued.
