(1 Thessolonians 6:16-18, NEB) At Thanksgiving our church-school children dramatize an ancient Palestinian harvest festival. When they bring their food offerings to the sanctuary, in their pijpcession they car ry four plants. One is delicious to the taste, one pleasing to the sight, and one sweet-srnelHng. The fourth is not pleasant to see, to smell or to taste; It is the bitter*“willow-of-the- brook." In this way the children learn to be thankful for the unpleasant, as well as the pleasant, things in life. In our scripture text, the apostle is concerned with our offering up in prayer without ceasing every circumstance and experience of life. We are to accept the sweet and the bitter, with a thankful heart. This is a heard saying, we protest. But Paul experienc ed what he taught.
