The best grass to use for waterways at this season of the year is fes cue. If a legume is desired along with the grass, white clover js good to use. 750 catfish were delivered to 23 Laurens County/ ponds by the Fish and Wildlife Ser vice on Tuesday of last week. The largest number, 3600. went into the ne.vly construct ed watershed flam on .Beard’s Fork Creek which will have, a normal pool area of 36 acres. The catfish fingerlings will be used for stocking ponds in combination with bhicgtll and bass. 1 Five-Day Clinic At Alien University Allen University Guidance Department will sponsor a school of cram and dance Oe- tober 17-21. George Penland and Marvin Nelson of Route 1, Laurens, did the clearing and snag ging on 5670 feet of channel work. C. D. Waldrep, Con tracting Officer for the Wa tershed Conservation District said the work was started on August 15 and was completed on October 4th. With the completion of this channel work, flooding of bot tomland will be prevented for a distance of JR* miles. The protection will start below the dam recently constructed on Beard’s Fork and extend to the junction with Duncan Creek. E. S. Eugene Stoddard did some waterwa'y construction and seeding on his farm in the Green Pond section this past week. Five waterways were shaped and planted to fescue grass. Mr. Stoddard plans to terrace these fields next year after the grass is established in the waterways. The local technicians of the Soil Con servation Service helped Stod dard plan the water disposal measures and staked out the waterways^ The earth mov ing was done by a motor gra der and bulldozer owned and operated by the Laurens County Soil Conservation Dis trict. ©O ilM „ CA$H MINES!
