C., Thursday, October t%, tt66 THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Clinton Residents Urged To Visit PC Bookstore A new enlarged bookstore at Pres byterian College, designated as the largest college-owned bookstore in the state, is proving a popular suc cess on campus and offers to Clinton residents the opportunity to pur chase the latest line in paperbacks as well as the textbooks. An entire line of paperbacks, hundreds of titles from such publishers as Harper and Row, Lifctlefeld - Adams, Penguin, Monarch, P.arnes and Nobles, Viking and others, are kept updated with current issue books and best-selling novels. Course commentaries include the College Outline Series and other study guides. The people of Clinton are invited to visit the bookstore often and browse among the displav shelves. As pictured here, the facility is loca ted on the first floor of the Douglas Jdouse in the room formerly used for television viewing. Bookstore hours are from 9 a. m. to 12 noon and from 1:30 p. m. to 5 p. m., Monday through Friday. Ray Combs, a sophomore from Bradenton, Fla., is student manager. Cross Hill Was Once A College Town Cross Hill is a growing communily in the lower part of Laurens County, 18 miles south of Clinton just off South Carolina Highway 7. With a population of around 1,000, it was at one time a larger eommunity than Clin ton. Back in the good old days, before the Revolution ary War, Cross Hill was a thriving town with a knitting mill, a college, and numer ous merchants. Following the war, the college was closed and the mill burned. Liberty Springs Presbyteri an Church was named during the war when soldiers march ing through, rested on the church grounds. Many were sick and began calling it “Liberty Springs.’* At (his time Cross Hill was located come % miles from its present location. Its name held true as it was located on a hill with a road crossing in the center. When the railroad was built, the town and citi zens moved closer to the transportation area and to day, the town is centered on both sides of the Seaboard track. Around Cross Hill is a fer tile farming section and is noted for ite cattle and dai ries. . Cross Hill has several business firms, a health cen ter, post office, and railroad express office. Only some five miles away is Lake Green wood with some 900 homes lo cated on the waterfront in that area. The people of the commun- munity are spiritually alert, and are active in the local churches representing d e- nominations including Bap tist, Methodist, and Presby terian. Cross Hill is a part of School District No. 56, with students Blue Key Taps *. New Members Nine students and one fac ulty member are the newly tapped members of the Pres byterian College chapter of Blue Key national leadership fraternity. The students, all seniors, are: Dan Montgomery of Greenville; Joe Gettys, Jr., of Clinton; Brown Johnson of Darlington; Woody Hall of York; Morrow Thompson of Van Wyck; Grady Marshall and Max Milligan, III, both of Atlanta; Howard O. Pro- tinsky, Jr., of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Carlos Emanuel of Ecuador. Chosen for honorary mem bership from among the fac ulty was S. Allen King, as sistant professor of English. Bob Heriong of Manning, president of the Blue Key chapter, presided over the chapel ceremonies at which the new mmbers were for mally tapped. Eugene Ricfibourg Dies in North Carolina S. Eugene Richbourg, 69, died in Lincolnton, N. C., on Oct. 11. Funeral services and burial were held in that city, where he had lived for many years. Mr. Richbourg was a re tired teacher of agriculture and school official and had taught in several c it i e s in South and North Carolina. He was a graduate of Ciem- son University. Mr. Richbourg, as a young man, lived in Clinton, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Richbourg. He married the former Miss Nellie Bobo of Clinton, who died several years ago. Surviving are a son, Dr. S. E. Richbourg of Lincolnton, four grandchildren, and a sis ter, Mrs. Fannie Richbourg Wallace of Jalapa in Newber ry County.
