Born in CUnton, son of the late Calvin Calhoun and Corrie Dillard Young, he was an em ployee of the Texaco Company. He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church and general secretary of the Sunday school for 15 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Kathleen Daen Young; two daughters, Mrs. Euston (Lola) Mayer of Newberry, and Mrs. George F. (Annette) Cox of Taxewell, Va.; three brothers, Clyde A. Young of Clinton; T. Rex Young of Cocoa, Fla.; and Sam M. Young of St. Peters burg, Fla.; and five grandchil dren. Funeral services were con ducted Friday at 4:00 p. m. at the First Baptis Church by Rev. Anderson Bass. Ivey, Jt., husband of Mrs. Kent Wysor Ivey of Clinton, now serving in South Viet Nam, has been awarded bis second Army Com mendation Medal. The citation designating the oak leaf cluster for the Com mendation Medal arrived earlier this week from Headquarters, United Stages Army, Europe, where Major Ivey served for al most four years with Company ,B, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces. The commendation cited Ben Ivey “for outstanding perform ance of duty while serving in a series of successively demanding positions, during the period Sep tember 1961 to June 1965. His resourceful planning, productive energy, and keen insight enabled him to establish a standard of ef ficiency envied by many and emulated by aU ... His skill ful cordination of activities of Special Forces operational de tachments with other units, both U. S. and Allied, during impor tant training exercices, enabled the Special Forces units to achieve outstanding results and establish an exemplary rap port.” Major Ivey has been in action with the Special Forces in South Viet Nam for the past several weeks. He was sent there affeer completing his tour of European duty last June and spending a month’s leave in Clinton. Mrs. Ivey and children, with Maor Ivey in Germany, will remain in Clinton during his year of service in the Far East combat zone. She is the daughter of Mrs. Robert E. Wysor, Jr., of 112 East Maple Street. Ben Ivey came to Presbyteri an College from Cheraw and re ceived his BA degree in 1946. He immediately entered the Army as an infantry officer and has advanced steadily since that date. His service has included tours of duty in the Canal Zone and Korea and attendance at various Army schols, including the Command and General Staff College, prior to going to Europe.
