Thomwtfl Has Fiftli Win At Lockhart, 20-6 Thornwell chalked a fifth straight win in a 20-6 conquest over the Lockhart Devils at Lock hart Friday night. Halfback Kenneth James rush ed for 127 yards, and fullback Larry Cockrell played well on defense to set the pace for the undefeated Wildcats. James ran 35 yards for the first touchdown. r Cockrell add ed another 35-ard touchdown, and Tommy Brock ran the point for a 13-0 halftime lead. Cockrell reeled off a 47-yard touchdown, with Jackie Higgin botham adding the point. Lock hart finally scored, on a 15-yard pass from Jimmy Vanford to Jimmy Broome. Thornwell has soured a total of 134 points to their opponents 24. Co-Captains Jacky Higgin botham and Larry Cockrell have led the way in scoring with 80 and 44 points, respectively. Jacky plays lefthalf and Larry fullback. Other backs that have helped in the scoring are Bobby Chandler, Kenneth James, Lennie Smith, and Tom Brock. The Thornwell linemen have played well in every game. The team is quite a surprise to the coaches this year after hav ing lost 13 members from last year’s squad. This year’s squad consists of twenty-eight boys and this is a rather large number since Thornwell is one of the smallest high schools in South Carolina.
