THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Clinton, S. G, Thursday, March 26, 1964 Views Of Our Readers T:,™ "T" Dayville, Conn. March 16, 1964 To the Editor: e You will find a check for an other year of The Clinton Chron icle. Our subscription comes due some time in March, but don’t remember the date. So I will send it now. We have been living in Connecticut for six years now and we still enjoy reading The Chronicle each week about friends in our home town. Thank you. Sincer^y, MRS. EDWARD W. DAVENPORT R. F. D. No. 1 Editor, The Chronicle: Some Laurens County citizens ] would be interested in knowing | more concerning the seemingly | peculiar manner of the appoint ment of a Magistrate for an un expired term. ; As now exists in such a sit-1 uation there appears to be a law, an agreement, or it is a dictator ial decree, that such an appoin tee is for a full new four year) term? By such a proceedure the reg ular election period is disregard-1 ed. At the expiration period, in or-1 der that voters might be shown a preference a special election | would be necessary. This writer is informed that | similar circumstances in an ad joining county will be voted upon | in a coming election. There are those who may won-1 der if such an existing and irreg-1 ular maneuver, smacks of ignor- j ance or of connivance. The importance of the elec- i tion or the appointment of a can didate to the office of township | magistrate should not be mini mized. A greater knowledge of the lo-1 cal available background would be of value in determining the suitability of a candidate, and in the warranting of a commission j by the Governor. This office is important enough | to be a definite elective job. In this way any possible pint-1 sized dictatorship would be nip-1 ped in the bud. Edward C. Henderson News Of Bonds Cross Roadsl MRS.
