Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Francis spent several days at Lake Mur ray last week. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Hunnicutt attended the Smith reunion at Williams ton Park, Williamston, last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. League spent the week-end with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Davis, in Covington, Ga. Mrs. Cleora Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Green of Greer, were Tues day visitors of Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Murphy. Miss Fredna Ross of Heidel- burg, Germany, spent several days last week with her grand mother, Mrs. Willie O’Dell, and other relatives, enroute to Wil liam and Mary College, Wil liamsburg, Va., where she is a rising senior. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Poag of Burlington, N. C., were week-end guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Poag, and brother, Calvin Poag, and Mrs. Poag. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Taylor of Jersey City, N. J., are visiting his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Waits were business visitors in Charlotte, N. C., Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Folds of Augusta, Ga., were Sunday visi tors of the latter’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jones Wallenzine. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Willingham has a birthday today, September 19th. PTA MEETING The first fall meeting of the Joanna Parent-Teacher Associa tion will be held Monday, Sept. 23, at 7:00 o’clock in the school cafeteria. All parents are invited to be present. INTERMEDIATE AND YOUNG PEOPLES’ PICNIC The Intermediate and young people of the Pint Baptist Church, along with their parents and leaders, will have a picnic Saturday, September 21, at Rev. Bruce’s home on Lake Murray. Groups will leave the church at 4 o’clock. and supper will be served at 6:00 p. m. CLASS MEETING HELD The Bethany Sunday school class held the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Maurice Daven port at 7.30. My husband has worked un der social security since 1937, but won’t be 65 for another year. Can I draw wife's payments based on his work since I’h already past Jdf. : Answer — No. Even though you’re past 65, you can’t draw wife’s payments until your hus band retires and starts collecting payments. Of course, if you had worked under social security yourself you could draw pay ments from your own work rec ord regardless of your husband’s situation. Question—I’m 55. My husband died over two years ago. I have no no children under 18. I’m too disabled to make a living. Can I draw monthly checks from my husband’s social security work record? Answer — I’m sorry but you can’t collect widow’s payments unless you are 62 or you have children in your care who can collect payments. You don’t meet either of these requirements You can’t collect disability payments unless you’ve worked 5 years out of the last 10 years. Question—My husband and I both work under social security. I thought that at retirement I could collect a wife’s benefit check based on my husband’s work and also £ benefit check based on my own work. I have bene told by a neighbor that I can’t collect both. She says I will be limited to the amount of the wife’s benefit payment even though it is less than the pay- ment based on my own work Is this correct? Answer—No, this is not cor rect; you have been misinformed by your neighbor. You will not collect two checks, it is true, but you’re not limited to the wife’s check if your own work entitles you to a higher payment. You’ll get which ever is the largest. For example, if from your own work you could coUect $100 a month and that a wife’s check based on your husband’s work would be $60 a month, you would draw the $100 check.
