American Legion Auxiliary Meetng The American Legion Auxiliary announces their meeting, Tues day, September 17, at 7 p.m. at Moore. Mrs. Julian Coleman, music chairman, will have charge of program. Weersings Honored In Qinton Home Dr. and Mrs. Marc C. Weersing were honored here last Saturday evening, September 7, by Mrs. and Mrs. Robert Vance at their home on South Broad Street. Greeting the guests upon arriv al with the Vances were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Campbell and Dr. and Mrs. Joe Gettys, who in troduced the honorees to the Presbyterian College faculty and staff members. The red and blue color of the college were noted in decorations and refreshments. Y., at 3 o’clock, Friday, Sep tember 6. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Rivers before an altar with an arrangement of white daisies in the chancel vases and seven- branched candelabra holding white tapers with a tracery of clematis were used on either side of the alter. Arrangements of magnolia foliage were used around the baptismal font and chancel. John Sabey Glover, Jr., was the acolyte. Nuptial music was presented by Mrs. R. Michsel Turner. Miss Mary Bart Stump was her sister’s maid of honor. She was dressed in a pink day-length dress of peau taffeta overlaid with silk sheer. Her headpiece was pink crushed roses wiht a pink tulle veil. Miss Stump carried an old fashioned nosegay of briarcliff roses and feathered carnations. Bridesmaids were Misses Nancy Douglas Stump, sister of the bride, and Laura Jean Wil son, sister of the groom. Junior bridesmaids were Sara Allison Stump, sister of the bride, and Valeni Wilson, sister of the groom. Each of the bridesmaids were dressed as the honor at tendant and carried old fashioned nosegays of pink feathered carna tions and white pom poms. The brunette bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in her day-length wedding dress of off-white peau de sole with elbow-length sleeves. From the waistline a half-skirt swept gracefully to the hemline form ing an arc. Her crown veil of orange blossoms was tied with tiers of waist-length french il lusion and she carried a cascade bouquet of butterfly roses inter spersed with pearl sprays and tuberoses. The best man was the father of the bridegroom. Ushers were Christopher Wilson, brother of the groom, and Allison Douglas Allison, II, of Raleigh, N. C., cousin of the bride. For a wedding trip south, Mrs. Wilson changed to an egg shell cotton knit dress and matching single-breasted jacket with three- quarter length sleeves. After Sep tember 12 the young couple will be at home on Cedar St., Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson are both students at Presbyterian College. Mr. Wilson is a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Among the out of town wed ding guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. William B. Wilson, the groom’s parents, of Scarsdale, N. Y.; Mrs. Horatio Allison, Pine Bluff, N. C., grandmother of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Rendinell, Los Angeles, Calif., grandparents of the groom; Mrs. Alexander Shaw and John Stump of Harford County, Md.; Miss Priscilla Parker, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Dan Mangum, Pine Bluff, N. C.; Mr. and Mrs. A. Douglas Allison, Miss Andra Al lison, and A. D. Allison of Ral eigh, N. C. Wallace House Is Setting For Supper A buffet supper honored Miss Margaret Stump and Anthony Wilson and their wedding party and out of town guests Thursday evening at the Wallace House in Newberry. Hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. R. B. Hellams, Mrs. J. B. Hart, Mrs. Bailey Dixon, Mrs. James Macdonald, Mrs. J. M. Oeland, Mrs. E. N. Sullivan, and Mrs. R. M. Turner. The wedding party was seated together in the dining room. Smaller individual tables were arranged for the guests in the dining room and on the sun porch. Large arrangements of mixed summer flowers centered the bride’s table, with smaller arrangements on the individual tables. Each place was marked with place cards and favors of miniature rice bags. The bride’s place was marked with a white mum corsage and the groom’s with a white roeebud bouton niere. Methodist Retreat At Myrtle Beach The fall Spiritual Life Retreat, sponsored by the Woman’s So ciety of Christian Service of the South Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church, will be held at the Myrtle Beach Methodist Church, Myrtle Beach, Septem-1 her 24 and 25. Mrs. R. L. Holroyd of Chester, immediate past president of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the conference, will be the leader of this four-session re treat. Her general theme will be “Four Pertinent Questions.” Wilson-Stump Rehearsal Party Mrs. Horatio Allison and Mrs. Dan Mangum of Pine Bluff, N. C., and Mrs. A. W. Allison of Ra leigh. N. C., entertained with a cake cutting at All Saints Epis copal Church Parish House, Thursday evening, Sept. 5 for the Stump-Wilson wedding party. Adorning the cake table was a tall arrangement of vari-shaded roses. Silver candelabra with pale pink tapers were used on either side. The wedding cake in green and white was usd on one end of the table. Arrangements of pink and white were used througohut the receiving rooms. Guests includ ed out of town guests, the wed ding party and close friends Lutheran Auxiliary In September Meet The regular quarterly meeting j of the Lutheran Church Women of St. John’s Church was held in! the Presbyterian College dining! hall on September 3 at 7:30 p. m J After supper, in the absence of the president, Mrs. J. Gordon Peery, Mrs. A. C. Workman, Jr., presided. Rev. Peery opened the meeting with prayer and intro duced the speaker, Rev. Murray Shull, returned missionary to Li beria. Rev. Shull was accompan ied by Mrs. Shull. The topic of the program was “The Cross Planted in Liberia.” During Rev. Shull’s talk films were shown that he had taken in Liberia. After the program a brief busi ness session was held and the members were dismissed with the repeating of the missionary benediciton. Luncheon Honored Recent Bride Mrs. Ed Campbell entertained Miss Margaret Stump, whose marriage to Anthony Wilson was solomnized Friday, September, 7, with a luncheon, Tuesday Sept. 3 at the Campbell home on Calvert Ave. Lunch was served buffet style from the dining table covered with white cutwork cloth and cen tered with a pink arrangement of gladioli. Guests were seated at individ ual tables covered in pink with tiny pink and white arrangements carrying out the motif of pink. Marking the bride-elects place was a white corsage. The honoree was remembered with a gift of linen. Out of town guests included an aunt of the honoree, Mrs. Ann Allison and daughter, Adra of Raleigh, N. C. Bock-To-School Party Given Friday Evening Mr, and Mrs. Ben Hammet and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Lehn entertained their sons, Ben Hammet, Jr., and Collie Lehn, with a back-to-school party Fri day evening, September 3, at the Lakeside Country Club. Guests were invited to the lawn porch which was decorat ed to the fall season. At one end of the porch, a buffet table was arranged with twe three tiered candelabra entwined with grapes and centered with a crystal punch bowl encircled with fall fruit. Autumn leaves were dispersed overHhe white linen cloth. Parallel to the buf fet table, eight individual tables were placed for conversation. Each table was arranged simi lar to the buffet tatble and not ed the fall colors. To the other end of the porch, a huge harvest moon and fall leaves gave the setting for dancing. Some thirty-five guests enjoy ed the occasion. Episcopal Church Women In Meet The women of All Saints Epis copal Church met Monday after noon, September 9 at the Parish House. Rev. John Rivers gave the pro gram on history and backgorund of Psalms, beginning the group’s study course for the year. The opening devotional was led by Michael Turner. Mrs. James Macdonald, president, presided over the business session. Plans were made for regular Sunday night supper beginning September 22 for Episcopal Col lege students. The Rev. Mr. Rivers is to be assisted by a committee composed of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Huff and Mr. and Mrs. Miles Powell. Arrangements for the Sunday nursery were discussed, Mrs. Bailey Dixon is chairman of the church school nursery. Receiving guests upon arrival with Dr. and Mrs. Stump were the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Wilson, the bride and groom an,d their wedding at- tendants. The guests were invited into the ballroom where refreshments were served from a prettily ap pointed table covered in white organdy and satin and centered with an arrangement of white gladiola, daisies, and pom poms. Silver candelabra holding white tapers were used on either side of the table. Immediately following the re ception, the bride and groom left for a southern wedding trip. Bonds Cross Roads MRS. N. A. Shouse was among the teachers attending Delta Kap pa Gamma Fall Workshop in Columbia on Saturday. Mrs. Shouse is president of the Epsilon Chapter which is composed of teachers of Newberry, Laurens, Abbeville and Greenwood coun ties. WORKMAN REUNION The annual Workman Reunion will be held Sunday, September 16, at Wards worth Community Housg. A picnic dinner will be served at one o’clock. Those at tending are asked to bring picnic lunch and tea. Birth Announcements CROWDER Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Crowder announce the birth of a daugh ter, Tina Charlene, on August 31 at Bailey Memorial Hospital. They also have a son, Timothy Edwin age, 2. Mrs. Crowder is the former Miss Elizabeth Ann Garner. McLENDON Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McLen don of Norfolk, Va., announce t h e birth of a son, David Wayne, on September 9 at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. They also have a daughter, Debra, age 4. Mrs. McLendon is the former Miss Susan Quaife of New Providence, Iowa. PEERY Mr. and Mrs. J. Gordon Peery announce the birth of a daughter, Laura Ann, on Sep tember 5. September Meeting At Whitten Village The Stephen D. Lee Chapter of the U D.. C. met at the Parents Club House at Whitten Village I for ito oeptember meeting. •James P. Sloan spoke to the members on the “Battle of Get tysburg”. He gave the highlights of a trip he and Mrs. Sloan had recently made to. Gettysburg and the city of Richmond, Va. Mr. Sloan is the proud possessor of the Bible his grandfather, Cap tain James P. Sloan, carried through the entire war, many letters written during the war and a scrapbook compiled by his grandmother at that time, all of which he exhibited. This was most interesting as it contained the role of Company F, 14th Reg iment, S. C., and volunteers of Laurens County. Each member could find many familiar names among the listing. After Mr. Sloan’s most interest ing talk, a social hour was en joyed with refreshments being served by the hostesses, Mrs. Irene Pitts, Mrs. Lena Lindsey, and Miss Louise Kern OFFICE SUPPLIES CHRONICLE PUB.
