Miss Sarah Ray, who is attend ing summer school at Furman University in Greenville spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ray. She had as her guest Miss Linda Brothers of Florence, who is also attending summer school at Furman. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. RECOVERING AT COCOA BEACH FLORIDA LeGrande Johnson has been dismissed from Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Fla., after a nine month stay. He wiU remain in Florida for several weeks before visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Hutson Johnson in Aiken. LitUe Gene Johnson of Aiken, visited his great-grandmother, Mrs. L. D. Edmonds Sunday. Mr. and Mrs .E. L. Holland and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Holland spent Saturday in Morganton, N. C. with Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Walk er. McFar land, Executive Director of the Christian Action League for North Carolina, will participate in an all-church retreat of the First, Baptist Church, Joanna, on August 22 and 23. Before com ing to his present position in January of 1961, Mr. McFar land was pastor of Baptist churches in Tennessee and Texas, including 13 years at the FUrst Baptist Church in Covington, Tenn. Inuring that time, he also served as professor in the Bible Department at Union University at Jackson. Tenn. In his work, Mr. McFarland speaks in junior and senior high schools and churches in an al cohol education program. The Christian Action League is an organiation that is dedica finding the solution lems created by the erage alcohol. A number nominations in the state coop erated in this work. Harper St. died early Sunday in a Columbia hospital after three months of illness. A native of Laurens County, so of the late Elbert and Mattie Duvall Rowland, he was a member of the First Presby terian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mittie Leaf Weathers Row land; a son, T. C. Rowland of Laurens; three daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Roebuck of Green wood, Mrs. Charles Milam and Mrs. Mildred Milam of Lau rens; a brother, Ernest Row land of Laurens; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cunninghatn of Clin ton and Mrs. W. S. Chapman of Laurens; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Monday at 5 p. m. at Kennedy Mortuary by Rev. Chalmers S. McCutchen and Rev. J. B. Abercrombie. Burial was in Laurens City Cemetery. Mrs. Nora Queen Laurens—Mrs. Nora Kuyken dall Queen, 75, of Bt. 2, Lau rens, died suddenly at her home last Wednesday night after sev eral years of declining health. A native of Polk County, N- J., daughter of the late W. T. and Sara Henson Kaykendsdl, te was a member of Wayside resbyterian Church. Surviving are a brother, arles Kuykendall of Easley; and three sisters, Mrs. J. E. [McGill of Slmpsonville and Mrs. IR. L. Godfrey and Mrs. C. W. (Wilson of Greenville. Funeral services were con ducted at 3 p. m. Saturday at BeUview Baptist Church by Rev. J. B. Abercrombie and | Rev. Roger Marrow.
