He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Joanna and the Old Timers Club. He was a veteran of World War n. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Morgan Davenport; four sons, Edward and Jeff Dav enport of Joanna; and James M. Davenport of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Jeanette p. Bak er of Ninety Six, and Miss Ruth Davenport of the home; one brother, J. H. Davenport, Sr., of Joanna; and two sisters, Mrs. G. F. Boozer and Miss Essie Davenport of Newberry. Davenport, and Reeder Pitts Davenport, Taylor Amendment To Laurens Hospital Bill Comes Too Late Laurens—The original bill cre ating a new set-up for Laurens District Hospital has passed both houses of the general Assembly and has been sent to the govern or for his signature, it was re ported Monday by Senator King Dixon. Representative David S. Tay lor, in following up a statement he made last week to the effect that he was considering an amendment to the bill which would take a veto power away from the senator in naming the trustees, said Monday that after passage of the original bin in the House on Friday, May H>, he sought on Tuesday of last week to recall it from the Senate, but that he learned on Thursday that the bin had been passed In the Senate and sent to the governor. Asked for an explanation of the lapse of time between the pas sage of the recall petition in the House and the passage of the biU in the Senate, Senator Dixon said the bin had already passed the Senate when the recall peti tion from the House was report ed. The senator said that the biU as introduced was passed with out amendment of any kind. It provided, among other things, for, a reduction of the trustee board from 14 to seven members and the mthod of election, for a legal title fear the hospital and other matters pertinent to its operation. The hospital is located in Lau rens and serves what is geneeral- ly deesribed as the “upper” part of the county. The lower area is served by Bailey Memorial Hos pital in Clinton. Both are sup ported in part by public funds. The other member of the county legislative delegation is Representative Marshall Aber crombie. A. Ropp, man ager of the Laurens ASCS office. Farmers will be eligible to par ticipate in the diversion (rental) program in 1904 if they are quali fied to vote in the referendum, and if at least two-thirds of the wheat growers voting the refer endum are in favor of marketing quotas. If quotas are approved for the 1904 wheat crop, price support will be available to participating growers at $2.14 per bushel on 80 per cent of their normal pro- Hompton School Pre-Registration Set Pre-school registration for chil dren entering first grade at Hampton Ave. School has been set for 9 a. m., Monday, May 27.
