Taylor Amendment
To Laurens Hospital
Bill Comes Too Late
Laurens—The original bill cre
ating a new set-up for Laurens
District Hospital has passed both
houses of the general Assembly
and has been sent to the govern
or for his signature, it was re
ported Monday by Senator King
Dixon.
Representative David S. Tay
lor, in following up a statement
he made last week to the effect
that he was considering an
amendment to the bill which
would take a veto power away
from the senator in naming the
trustees, said Monday that after
passage of the original bin in the
House on Friday, May H>, he
sought on Tuesday of last week
to recall it from the Senate, but
that he learned on Thursday that
the bin had been passed In the
Senate and sent to the governor.
Asked for an explanation of the
lapse of time between the pas
sage of the recall petition in the
House and the passage of the
biU in the Senate, Senator Dixon
said the bin had already passed
the Senate when the recall peti
tion from the House was report
ed.
The senator said that the biU
as introduced was passed with
out amendment of any kind. It
provided, among other things,
for, a reduction of the trustee
board from 14 to seven members
and the mthod of election, for a
legal title fear the hospital and
other matters pertinent to its
operation.
The hospital is located in Lau
rens and serves what is geneeral-
ly deesribed as the “upper” part
of the county. The lower area is
served by Bailey Memorial Hos
pital in Clinton. Both are sup
ported in part by public funds.
The other member of the
county legislative delegation is
Representative Marshall Aber
crombie.
