A yellow color note was car ried out in decorations. Yellow mums and glads centered each of the three tables. Dr. Edouard Patte, choir di rector, was presented a beautiful cake in thes hape of a baby grand piano, iced in white with black keys. Paul Woodall was master of ceremonies. Following dinner, the choir gave several appropriate selec tions. Thursday Club Met At Young Home * Mrs. Reese Young honored the mual oMtnbers of her bridge club last 4, at [Thursday afternoon at her home on the Jacobs Highway. An arrangement of mixed flow ers, iris, roses, and swee} wil liams, made the setting for the four tables of bridge in the liv ing room and den. * The hostess served sandwiches, sweets, and cold drinks between play. Mrs. R. E. Ferguson, Jr., was guest prize winner. Mrs. W. G. King and Mrs. Frank Sherrill were club mem ber winners. Homage Are Honored On 40th Anniyersary Mr. and Mrs. Walter Burr Ramage of Rute, 2, Laurens, were 'honored with a surprise drop-in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary on Satur day evening, May 4, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Abrams in Clinton. Given by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Nichols of Savannah, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Ramage of Lakeland, Fla., the drop-in was attended by relatives of the couple and out of town friends. Symbolizing the ruby for the fortieth wedding anniversary, the decorations were in shades of red and pink. The center- piece of red roses and pink snapdragons and pink candela bra highlighted the dining room table which was overlaid with a pink linen cloth. The punch bowl was circled by red roses and greens. Buf fet refreshments Included pink open-faced sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, a red chip dip, nuts, and rose decorated cup cakes. Mrs. Ramage, the former Nelle Senn of Laurens, wore a corsage of pink rosebuds. Punch was poured by Mrs. Estelle Abrams of Clinton, sis ter of Mr. Ramage, and Mrs. Roy Henderson of Greenville, sister of Mrs. Ramage. The guests of honor received many lovely gifts. Lovely Tea For Miss Gray Complimenting their niece and cousin, Miss Margaret Gray of Laurens, Mrs. L. Russell Gray and Mrs. Robert Vance enter tained with a lovely tea Friday, April 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 o’clock at the Vance home on South Broad Street. The bride- elect, member of Hampton Ave nue School faculty, will be mar ried on June 15 to Donald McIn tyre. Arrangements of roses were used in the receiving rooms and in the dining room the table covered with a handsome lace cloth was adorned with pink and white roses. Receiving with the honored guest and the hostesses were her mother, Mrs. Horace W. Gray, Mrs. J. E. McIntyre and Miss Linda McIntyre, mother and sis ter of the groQin4a4te. College Domes With Mrs. Stump The College Dames met on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Alex Stump. Games of bridge, canasta, and scrabble were played by the group, in receiving rooms decorated with spring flowers. Mrs. John Glover and Mn. Thomas Stallworth assisted the hostess in serving coffee and cookies. Russia Topic For Study Club Continuing a study of Russia, Mrs. William P. Jacobs gave an informative account of the Rus sian schools recently when the club met at the home of Mrs. H. E. Sturgeon. Decorating arrangements of peonies and roses graced the living room. Following the program, a sal ad course, lemon tarts, and cof fee were served during the social hour. Luncheon Honors Bride-Elect Mrs. B. B. Ballard and Mrs. AHeh Simmons honored Miss My ra Pitts Saturday with a lovely luncheon in the Green Room at Vernon’s. Covers were laid for sixteen guests at a beautifully appointed table centered with satin Topiary tree. Dainty nose gays made of mixed pink flow ers market the place of each guest. Miss Pitts was presented a corsage of pink rosebuds and a gift in her chosen pattern of crystal. Also remembered with gifts were Miss Linda Milam, June bride-elect and Mrs. Charles Pitts, a recent bride. Clinton High Junior-Senior Prom “Ebbtide” was the theme car ried out last Friday evening, May 3, when the J&nior Class gra ciously entertained the Seniors with a prom at the Clinton High School Gymnasium. Entrance into the ballroom was via a gang plank leading to “Paradise Under The Sea”. Upon entering, one could see the superstructure of a wrecked ship suspended from the ceiling. The bottom of the “sea” was beautifully arranged with sand, shells, and driftwood. Fishing nets were draped across the walls, filled with blue angel hair, shells, and drift wood. Indirect lighting was used giving special attention to a treasure chest fil led with jewels. The bandstand was decorated with a large coral and white elam shell for the Blue Notes Orchestra of Qemson CoIle&. Dinner was served buffet style from a prettily appointed table Assisting Mrs. Gray and Mrs. driftwood, shells, Vance in entertaining were Mrs. J. P. Alexander, Mrs. Russell Dendy, Mrs. G. T. Barnes, Sr., Mrs. Nene D. Workman, Mrs. H. M. Wise, Mrs. S. P. Ilowers, Misses Mary Bailey Vance, Bar bara and Mary Lou Montgomery and Linda Gray. Miss Gray was presented a corsage of white roses and lily- of-the-vaUey and a piece of silver in her chosen pattern. Thomwell High Junior-Senior The Thomwell High School junior class honored the senior class last Friday evening with a banquet at the Hartness gym nasium. “The Southern Gardens” was the theme for the evening and was beautifully carried out in decorations. Huge white col umns, entwined with ivy, flanked with bouquets of pink roses were very effective. Streamers of pink roses and pink lighted tapers centered each of the tables formed to shape a “T.” A pink rose corsage was pinned to each of the isdies’ chairs and boutonnieres for each gentleman. Festive fruit baskets, crunchy chicken salad with tomato wedg es, duchess peas in shell, gin gered pears, potato chips, cheese biscuits, strawberry shortcake, iced tea and mints was the menu for the evening. U. D. C. Learns Of Vicksburg The Stephen D. .Lee Chapter of the U.D.C. met last Thurs day May 2, with Mrs. Austin Chandler. Co-hostess were Mrs. J. K. Johnson, Mrs. J. P. Ro land, and Miss Mary Johnson Mrs. G. A. Burton was in charge of program and gave a very interesting talk on “Vicks burg, The Gallant City.” Mrs. Burton also read an article on the “Origin of Decoration Day. Music Club Meets At Douglas House The Clinton Music Club met Wednesday^ May 3, at the Doug las House on the Presbyterian College Campus with Mrs. Lewis Hay presiding. • The Clinton High School Choral group under the direction of Har ry Banknight sang three selec tions. “These Things Shall Be”, “Deep River”, and “The Lord’s Prayer”. Jim Adair played a drum solo. Hap McSween played a trombone solo, “My Regards”, accom panied by His sister, Lucille at the piano. The hostesses were: Miss Mar garet Bell,’ Mrs. John Southall, Mrs. Gerald Smith, invited every one to the refreshment table where punch and cookies were served after which the business meeting was held. Mrs. Harry Bolick III gave the background of the Hymn of the Month — “All Creatures of Our God and King,” after which it was sung by the audience with Miss Luva McDonald accompan- ing at the piano. Mrs. Taylor reporting for the nominating committee, read the following slate of officers for next year: President, Mrs. Paul Muller; Vice-President, Mrs. Hary Bo lick III; Secretary, Mrs. Robert Johnson; Treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Taylor; Librarian, Mrs. Audrey McCroskey. The group continued their study on chapter 27 of the gos- jel according to St. Matthew. Mrs. James Macdonald, presi dent, announced that an educa tional institute is to be held May 16 at Trinity Church in Co lumbia. The annual Rogation Sunday service and picnic will take place May 19 in Laurens. Mrs. R. B. Hellams, treasurer, gave a monthly report. The meeting closed with pray er. Brent Holcomb Has Birthday Party Mr. and Mrs. Gary Holcomb entertained their son, Brent, on the occasion of his 13th birthday at the Cecil P. Wilson home. Each of the young ladies were presented small corsages of gar net roses. , During the evening, sandwich es, cookies and punch were serv ed from the breezeway on a pret tily appointed table with an ar rangement of Blaze roses inter spersed with white tapers. Mrs. Holcomb was assisted by Mrs. Robert Johnson and Mrs. W. O. Holland in entertaining. Lakeside County Club News The Junior Golf Tournament will be held for meftibers of the Lakeside Country Club on the 13th and 14th of June. Players will qualify on the 13th. Two Saturdays prior to the 13th, a free golf clinic will be given for the Jr. members. On Saturday night, May 11, an other “His” and “Hers” steak night will be held followed with dancing by combo. Reservations must be made with Mr. Tinsley not later than Thursday, May 9. June Bride-Elects Honored Saturday On Saturday afternoon, May 4, Mrs. Heath Copeland entertained Miss Wiley Davis, Miss Linda Milam, and Miss Betsy Davis, all June bride-elects, at her home on East Centennial Street. The hostess, greeting the guests at the door, presented the hon- orees along with their mothers, Mrs. Jack Hayne Davis, Mrs. M. Dillard Milam, and Mrs. Lawrence Fuller Davis. A focal point in the living room was an arangement of Friend ship pink glads and matching pink carnations in a burgundy container. On the antique candle stand was an arrangement of Dr. Van Fleet roses. The oval shaped banquet table was overlaid with white satin and net. Centering the table was an arrangement of wisteria and pink carnations in an antique cut-glass compote, flanked by a pair of silver five-branched can- dlebra with sweet pink tapers. On a side table was a crystal punch bowl, with ivy and a silver candelabra. Bridge Club Meet Held In Kinords Mrs. John T.
