Thursday, April 11, 1963 • lib CLINTON CHRONICLE THE WOMAN'S PAGE Social Events and Chib News of Interest Telephone 833-0541 Music "Club Meets Wttfi Mrs. Coleman The Clinton Music Club met Wdenesday, April 3, at the home of Mrs. Julian Coleman, with Mrs. Lewis Hay presiding. .Mrs. Hay gave the background of the Hymn of the Month, “Thine Is The Glory,” by Han del, after which the hymn was sung by the group, accompanied by Miss Luva McDonald at the piano. Culminating the year’s study, American Musical Theatre, the choral group presented a pro gram of selections from well known Broadway musicals: Kfy Fair Lady, Oklahoma, and Naughty Marietta. The audience joined in singing several selec tions. Refreshments of sandwiches, cake, salted nuts and spiced tea were served by the hostesses, Mrs; Coleman, Mrs. T. J. Leake, Mrs. Nene Workman and Mrs. Audrey McCroskey. The speaker for this meeting will be Mrs. D. O. Rhame. Dr. Jones Speaks To UDC Chapter The April meeting of the Ste phen D. Lee Chapter of the UDC met ah the home of Mrs. G. A. Burton. A Reports were given from dele gates who attended the District conference in Newberry. A? very interesting program was given by Dr. Newton Jones, history teacher at Furman Uni versity, Greenville. Dr. Jones spoke on “The Diplomacy of Confederate States.” Moke Puppets College Domes The College Dames met last Thursday with Mrs. Taylor Mar tin. Mrs. James Oeland and Mrs. F. V. Smith presented the pro gram on the work of the Volun teer Service at Whitten Village. They illustrated the program with puppets and later gave a demonstration of making the puppets. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Sv P. Plowden, Mrs. George Clarke; Mrs. Randolph Huff, and Mrs. Ben Hay Hammet, served punch, sandwiches and cookies. Miss Helloms and Mr. Pitts Married In Sunday Rites The marriage of Miss Sarah Elizabeth Hellams and Charles Thomas Pitts was solemnized Sunday, April 7, at the First Methodist Church in Laurens. Rev. J. H. Martin performed the ceremony. Mrs. John K. Taylor, organist, presented the wedding music. The bride chose for her wed ding dress an off white, double breasted, street length sheath with jacket, and matching ac cessories. Her hat was of green and white flowers with half veil. She carried a white orchid cor sage. For a wedding trip to Florida, Mrs. Pitts added a dark beige cashmere coat. Mrs. Pitts, daughter ■ of Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Charles Hel- Luns of Laurens, is a graduate of Greenville County High School, Emporia Va., and is formerly Medical Record Librarian at the Laurens District Hospital. She will resume the same position at Bailey Memorial Hospital in Clinton. Mr. Pitts, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Roy Pittses a graduate of Clinton High School and is presently owner and ope rator of Pitts Service Station. Mr. and Mrs. Pitts wil make their new home at 506 East Flori- day Street after*April 15. Members who are interested in playing in the bridge tournament should make arrangements for their own players. Those who are interested in at tending the luncheon may con tact Mrs. Ed King or Mrs. J. M. Gettys, hostesses. Hostesses Honor Mrs. George Senn Entertaining at b r i d g e on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Hercu les Wise, Mrs. Robert Vance, and Mrs. James Switzer of Un ion, honored Mrs. George Senn, who was recently married, with a party at the Wise home on Pitts Street. After several progressions a prize was awarded Mrs. James Macdonald for high score. Refreshments were served at prettily appointed tables. In the dining room, where a pink color note was used, tulips and azal eas centered the table covered with an imported cloth. A minia ture wedding party in figurines and Dresden roses were effective on the table, where the honored guest and others at the head MRS. LuHieran Regular Sessidb In The L. C. W. of St.' John’s Lu theran Church held its regular meeting April 1 at the church. Mrs. S. P. Bowers gave the devotional. Mrs. C. E. Seastrunk of Laurens, was guest speaker. Mrs. Gordon, president of the group, led the business session. A social hour concluded the program for the evening. During this time everyone enjoyed re freshments ^whijch were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Rimer and Mrs. Werts. Methodist Church To Hove Cantoto On Sunday night, April 14, the adult choir and the junior choir of Bailey Memorial Church will present the Easter cantata. B. Julian Weisner, minister, invites everyone to attend. Miss Nora Patsy Madden of Route 2, Laurens, became the bride of Glenn Edward Braswell of Lakewood Drive in Clinton, in a^epremony which took place Saturday, April 6, at 7:00 p. m. The Rev. Gene Morris performed the double ring ceremony at the Waterloo Methodist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ray Madden of Laurens. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E.Braswell,Jr.; of Clinton. Mrs. Niles C. Clark, pianist, and Mrs. W. S. McNeil, soloist, both of Waterloo, presented a program of wedding music. ... A background of candelabra palm and two floor baskets with white gladioli and' chrysanthe- m u m s and pink carnations marked the setting for the beauti ful ceremony. J. E. Braswell, Jr., was his son’s best man. Ushers-included Maxie Davis of Clinton, and Ty ler Bryant of Clinton and Colum bia. The bride had as her maid of honor, Miss Dale Chapman. Bridesmaids were Miss Connie Pitts and Mrs. Mgxie Davis. Each wore a daytime length dress of full pink sheer nylon skirts with lace body and round, low neckline. Ray Madden, was lovely in her full length gown of Chantilly lace over sat in. The dress featured a Peter Pan collar and long sleeves com ing to a point at the wrists. A crown of sequins and pearls held her fingertip veil. She carried a white prayer book adorned with a white orchid and net stream ers. The bride is a graduate of Hickory Tavern School and the groom a graduate of Clinton High School. They both are em ployed by the Torrington Com pany.
