C., Thursday, March 28, 1963 Accident On County Road • This 1963 Chevrolet, which went out of Control on second ary road 53, commonly called the old Laurens-Clintoh road, was responsible for injuries to one person around 7c00 p. m., Sunday. Harold W. Lee. 18, of Clinton, identified as the driver, said that he was traveling east and swerved to avoid hitting an automobile which was attempting to back out of a curb market, when he lost control of his car. The Chevrolet swerved into a ditch on the left side of the road, then careen ed back across to the right side, clipping a small tree as it went through a yard and then came to rest again on the road way. Banknight, will be judged first on their prepared musical selections, next they will be judged on sightreading — playing music which they have not play ed or heard before. If their com bined ratings are a one or a two, they will be eligible to attend the State Music Festival in the spring. DR. R. L. DENEEN Columbia Minister To Conduct Revival At First Baptist Dr. R. L. Deneen, pastor of the Park Street Baptist Church, Co lumbia, will conduct revival ser vices at the First Baptist Church April 1 through April 7. . Rev. J. H. Darr, pastor of the church, announced this week that J. E. Martin will lead the congre gational singing during the re vival. Dr. Deneen, a native of Michi gan, graduated from the Univer sity of South Carolina and South western Baptist Theological Sem inary, Fort Worth, Texas. He holds an honorary L.L.D. from the Atlanta Law School, Atlanta, Ga. He has served at Payk Street Church since 1956. He represents South Carolina on the Baptist Sunday School Board. The reVjyal will end with mor ning services on April 7. Mrs. M. G. Jeones Laurens—Mrs. Annie Proctor Simes Jeanes died early Satur day afternoon in a Laurens nurs ing bomb? She was a native of Flpyd County, Ga., daughter of the late John Marshall and Anna Forbes Proctor. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was twice married. Her first husband, Dr. Robert Thom as Simes, Jr:, died in 1914. Her second husband, Maxie Gregg Jeanes, died ii£»1948. She was the last member of her immediate family. Graveside services were con ducted at Rocky Springs Presby terian Church cemetery Sunday at 2:00 p. m. by Rev. Chalmers F. McCutchen. Congratulations to Andi Stroud, a C.H.S. sophomore, who was re cently elected to be a state F.N. A. officer for next year. Andi will serve as either second vice- president or chairman of mem bership. Her office will be de cided at the State F.N.A. conven tion in June. Seniors Carol Copeland, Keith Cadley, and Roger Cooper have been accepted at Clemson Col lege. She was a native of Madison County. N. C.. but had lived in Clinton for 12 years. She was a daughter of the late George Franklin and Nancy Shelton Nor ton. She was a member of the Church of God at Fort Mill, Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. C. S. Robeftsoh, Mrs. Eliz abeth Nelson, Mrs. Marion Law- son, Mrs. George Davis and Mrs. Virgil Webb, all of Clinton; three sons, Quinton Jones of Clinton, James E. Jones of Williamston and J. P. Jones of Belmont, N. Maxwell, Priest-in-charge of Saint Chris topher’s Episcopal Church in Spartanburg, will be the guest minister at a preaching mission slated for April 2, 3, and 4 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Clinton. Rev. John Rivers of All' Saints’ said this week that the mission will begin each evening at 8 p.m. Beginning the week will be a pancake supper in the parish house, starting at 6 p.m. on Tues day, April 2. Tickets are on sale and proceeds will be used for a foreign mission gift. Rev. Maxwell, a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and of Virginia Seminary, is a native of Augusta, Ga. He served as ap Atomic Weapons Officer in the Air Force for three years. Discussion over coffee in the parish house following the service is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Marvin Poole, 61, Passes On Friday Marvin Todd Poole, 61, retired contractor, died at his home here on Friday morning. He was a native of Laurens County where he spent most of hi life. He was a son of. the late William Augustus and Ruth Todd Poole. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton and Campbell Masonic Lodge 44. J. W. Spillers, Rev. Floyd Hellams, and Rev. C. H. Graham. Mrs. Patterson was a native of Pelzer, but had lived in Clin ton for many years. She was a daughter of the late Will and Lucy Quinn Kohn. She was a member, of the Chester Methodist Church. Her husband, T. M. Patterson, died in 1942. " Surviving are a son, W. A. Pat terson of Clinton; two daughters, Mrs. Jim Tinsley and Mrs. Lucy Wilkie, both of Clinton; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Selma Boul- ware of Union and Mrs. Grace Boulware of Laurens; a brother, James G. Bobby Gene Jones Dies In Washington; Interment Is Here Bobby Gene Jones, 29, died Sunday afternoon at a Washing ton, D. C.,' hospital after an ill ness of several months. He was a native of Saluda County, burhad lived in Green wood mdst of his life. For two years he lived in Bristol, Va., where he was a professor at Sul- lins College. He was a Mrs. Aleyne Bryan Jones of Greenwood, and the late Rev. C. W* Jones. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bris tol. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Mrs. Jane Todd Jones, formerly of Clinton; a daughter, Nancy Suzanne Jones of the home; and three brothers, Mack D. Jones of Greenwood; Edward Jones of Greenville; and Jack Jones of Bowie, Md. Funeral services were conduct ed Tuesday at 4:00 p. m. at South Main Street Baptist Church, Greenwood, by Rev. J. W. Land and Mrs. Robert Black will participate in the audi tions. - Timmerman studied at Fur man University on a piano scholarship under Mona Keen ey. He has done graduate work at St. Louis Institute of Music, St .Louis, Mo. Since 1951. he has taught pi ano and theory in the Denmark (S.C.) public schools. Many of his pupils have won scholar ships to leading^ universities and conservatories.
