i Evangelist M. N. Pearman and family, known as the “musical family,” from Minneola, Fla., will present a series of revival services at Friendship Baptist Church, North Broad Street Extension, beginning November 25 and continuing through Sunday, December 2. Rev. Jesse D. Stephens announced this week that Evange list Pearson will also speak on WPCC each morning at 10:30. Revival services at the church will be at 11:00 a. m. and 7:00 p. m. Cadet Mayes Named at The Citadel Cadet Whitfield W. Mayes of Clinton, has been designated as a “distinguished military student” in the Army ROTC. He is a student at The Citadel, Charleston. Cadet Mayes was one of 34 seniors who won the coveted designation. Upon graduation a distinguished military student is entitled to apply for a regular rather than a reserve com mission as second lieutenant. In awarding these ratings, careful appraisal of a candi date’s qualities of leadership, loyalty, initiative, attitude, mili ary bearing .and character is made by his military instruc tors. In addition, DMS recipients must be in the top third in their ROTC classes, attain a favorable report on their sum mer camp activities, and be in the upper half of their classes academically. The Navy’s “queen of the seas” is the largest ship in the world, measuring 1,125 feet long. Goes To Germany Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Miguel Cassanova and family have moved here from Hampton, Va., and are residing at 117 Fifth Avenue. Sgt. Cassanova was formerly stationed at Fort Monroe, Va., and will leave about the 14th of December for duty in Germany with the 527th MP Company. Ip Guidance Counselor Visits Orphanage; Will Give Two Talks Mrs. Paul Whitney, guidance counselor of Syracuse, N. Y., is spending this week at Thorn well Orphanage. She will present two addresses that are open to the public. The first is scheduled for Fri day evening, November 23, at 7:30 in the Thornwell Presbyte rian Church. Her lecture is en titled “The Basic Needs of Your Children—Are You Meeting Them?” This address has been described as of special interest to teachers, youth leaders and pa rents of children. She will speak again on Sun day evening at 7:30, .November 25, in the Thornwell Church. Again the community is invited to attend. Mrs. Whitney is currently vis iting thirteen South Carolina cit ies and towns to conduct Parent 1 and Family Life Workshops. She recently addressed 8,000 teachers at the Kansas Teachers conven tion, and 5,000 at the New York State convention. She will go from here to Columbia, Rock Hill, Lancaster and Burlington, N. C. W. McDaniel Funeral services for N. Warren McDaniel, 80, who died late Fri day night at a Clinton nursing home after several years of de clining health, were conducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p. m. at the First Baptist Church by Rev. J. H. Darr. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. A native of Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Winches ter and Virginia Boyd McDaniel. He had lived in Clinton for 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Wood men of the World. He was an em ploye of Whitten Village for 27 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Fannie Mae Reese McDaniel; a daughter, Mrs. W. P. Coker of Asheville, N. C.; five sons, Joe C., Charlie R. Hamp McDaniel, Clinton; O. T. McDaniel of Fay etteville, N. C. and B. W. Mc Daniel of Augusta, Ga.; six sis ters, Mrs. Nettie Bussey of Mo doc, Mrs. M. Loree Davie, Mrs. N. Chaffee Croft, Mrs. Fred Oli- phant. Miss Georgia E. McDaniel and Mrs. Frank Kendrick of Augusta; four brothers, Wiches- ter and Jasper McDaniel of Mo doc, Pat McDaniel of Avondale, N. C., and Joe B. McDaniel of Winthrop, Maine; 11 grandchil dren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dan Martin, G. W. Bell, Sr., Joe Tankersley, Carl Leonard, I. C. McCarley and Guy Smith. Falling Tree Kills 44-Year-Old Man Lewis Boyd, 44-year-old Lau rens County Negro, was appar ently killed instant 1 v around 0:30 a. m., Monday, when a tree he was cutting split at the base and fell on him, according to Laurens County Coroner M. N. Pressley. Coroner Pressley said that Boyd was cutting the tree In Sumter National Forest in the northeast ern part of the county at the time of the accident. A jury was empaneled and an inquest will be held at a time to be announced. .
