RETURN HOME Mr. and Mrs. V. P. Adair will return this week from Hampton, Va., where they have been spend ing the summer months with their daughter, Miss Vivian Parks Adair. Miss Ann Ray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Ray, has re sumed her studies in the sopho more class at Meredith College, Raleigh, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. J. Henderson Pitts were week-end guests of Dr. i and Mrs. John McSween at their cottage at Garden City Beach. Friends of Mrs. Louise McCart- 1 ney of Laurens, will be interested to know she is spending some time while recuperating from a recent operation at the home of her sis ter, Mrs. Grady Chandler, and Mr. Chandler, before resuming her duties on the staff at Whitten Village. Mr. and Mrs. James Barbour, their son, James, Jr., and daugh ter, Nancy, of Hamlet, N. C., were overnight visitors on Sunday with Mrs. Julian Coleman. James Barbour, Jr., is enrolled as a member of the freshman class at Presbyterian College. Mrs. R. L. Lockett of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Furman Evans of Anderson, were guests several days last week of Mrs. Julian Coleman. AT USC Among Clinton High School graduates entering the University of South Carolina are Dennis Da vis, Miss Jean Blackmon, Barrie Whitman, and Donnie Revis. Mrs. Mack Poole, Mr. and Mrs. Deany Martin and daughter, Phyllis, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy San ders and sons attended the Demp sey family reunion Sunday at the North Pacolet Church, Campo- bello. Mrs. A. G. Sublett left yester day for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. D. B. Durden, and Mr. Dur den at Sullivan’s Island. Mr. and Mrs. Roy s Bryant and children of Darlington, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Johnson, Jr., and dau ghter of Clemson, spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Karl Johnson. IN NORFOLK Mrs. O. B. King left Friday for a ten-day visit in Norfolk, Va., with her daughter, Mrs. Dana F. Grey, her son, Warren O. White, and their families. Miss Mary Cunningham, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. McLees Cunningham, has returned to Fur man University, Greenville, for her senior year. NEW RESIDENTS Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Gaines, for merly of Landrum, have moved into a home in the Lakewood section. Mr. Gaines is connected with the Laurens Hosiery Mills. Their daughter, Melinda, is a freshman at Presbyterian Col lege. and their son, Douglas, is a sophomore at Clemson. Friends here of G. F. Cooley of Camden, will regret to know he is ill and a patient at the Providence hospital, Columbia. Mrs. Cooley is the former Miss Leila Adair of Clinton. GALLOWAY AT MEET C. E. Galloway last week at tended a three-day meeting of South Carolina representatives of the Equitable Life Assurance So ciety at Myrtle Beach. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Roseboro and daughter, Caroline, of Ham let, N. C., were guests during the week of the former’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Roseboro. AT CALHOUN FALLS Robert Horton, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Earle Horton, is teaching band in the Calhoun Falls schools. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Staton spent Sunday in Concord, N. He was accompanied to Cambridge on Tuesday by his father and uncle, John Sloan of Greenville. Enroute they spent several days during the week-end in New York City. Cecil Davenport has returned to Clemson College to begin his sen ior year. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs Joe Davenport. IN HOSPITAL Friends of G. W. Hollingsworth Electric Co-Op Fair And Meeting Held Laurens — Linda Wrenn, 16- year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Wrenn of Rt. 1, Wat erloo, was named “Miss Laur ens Electric Co-op,’’ at the an nual Electric Fair here Friday night. Miss Wrenn, a senior at Hic kory Tavern High School, was crowned by last year's winner, Diane Price of Joanna. Miss Wrenn will compete in the state contest to be held in Columbia in December. Jeanrve Holbrook, 16, of Simp- sonville. was second-place win ner in the beauty contest and Miss Betty Henderson, 16, of Waterloo, was third. In the talent contest Alice Sul livan. 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B Sullivan, Jr., placed first with a vocal se lection, “Where The Boys Are.” Audrey Martin was runnerup and she also sang. Perry Simp son, of Clarks Hill, second run ner-up with a ventriloquist act. The Electric Fair was held un der a large tent on the Laurens Fair Grounds. Also furnishing entertainment were the Laurens Barber Shop Singers and several professional groups During the afternoon at a bus iness meeting presided over by Henry Paris, manager of the Laurens Electric Co-Op, the fol lowing directors were elected: L. B, 4th Battalion, 1st Train ing Battalion, Fort Jackson, was recently selected a regimental Commander’s Orderly. Selection was made during an inspection of the regimental guard when he was the neatest, most alert informed soldier of the Guard composed of some thirty men. Bouknight and daughter, Amelia, and Sam Stone of Char leston, visited their mother, Mrs. Metta Stone, during the week-end, coming especially to help cele brate her 84th birthday which was yesterday, the 20th Dr. and Mrs William Hugh Hall and children. Kathy, Hugh, Jay, Rosemary and Nancy, of Charlotte, N. C., spent the week end with Dr. Hall’s mother, Mrs. E. H. Hall. Also joining the fam ily on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Hall of Greenville. West Passes In Alexandria, La. Funeral services were held Sun day in Alexandria, La., for John H. West. 86. a former Clinton resi dent. Mr. West is survived by a lau ghter, Mrs. Evelyn Hixson of Alexandria, and two grandsons, Dr. Walter G. Coker of Spartan burg. and John W. Coker of Char lotte, N. C., both formerly of this city.
