People You Know Items of Interest Concerning Local Residents Mr. and Mrs. James Austin Chandler and children were visi tors here Tuesday and Wednesday with the former’s mother, Mrs. Austin Chandler. They were en- route to their home in Atlanta after a visit in Myrtle Beach where they attended the Bennett- Skews wedding and in Darlington where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bryant. Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Bonds spent the week-end in Charleston. MACDONALDS RETURN Dr. and Mrs. M. A. Macdonald have returned to the city from their summer cotUge at Mon treat, N .C. Mrs. Macdonald has spent the summer there, with the former joining her at intervals and for a vacation stay. Jim Johnson of Bridgeport, Conn., student at the University of South Carolina, was the week end guest of Ed Pitts. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Krell and little daughter of Columbia, were visitors here on Sunday and Mon day with Mrs. Krell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Eichelberger. Misses Louise Speake and Eliza beth Glover have returned from Pawley’s Island where they have been employed for the summer. TEACH IN ORANGEBURG Miss Eleanor Hudgens will re turn this week to Orangeburg where she is a member of the schools faculty after spending the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Hudgens. Mrs. L. C. Singley has returned from a month's stay in Columbia with her daughter, Mrs. Charles Musselwhite, and Mr. Mussel- white. Mrs. John T. CAPTAIN BYARS HERE Captain Howard Byars, who is stationed in Erveaux, France, with the U. S. Air Force and is in the states for several weeks on temporary duty, spent the week end with Mrs. Byars’ parents, Mr. and Mrs L. H. Watts, in Mountville. Mrs. Frank Sherrill and chil dren have returned from a two weeks visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Newburn. in Sara sota, Fla NEW RESIDENTS Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Tay lor and children, Jeannie, Eddie and Renee, formerly of Spartan burg, are now making their home here at 700 Shands street. Adair will be interested to know she has moved to Greenville where she will make her home. Miss Wiley Davis, who has been working in Bridgeport, Conn., and Miss Trecie Davis, who has been employed at Pawley's Island for the summer months, have re turned to their homes here. They are daughters of Mr. and Mrs Lawrence F. Davis. Mrs. William W. Hutto of Reevesvilie, recently spent sev eral days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl I. Chandler, who accompanied her home for a visit. Paul A. Chandler spent Saturday with his sister and brother-in- law, and accompanied them home. Mr. and Mrs. S. B Loftis and Homer Huggins of Woodruff, re cently attended the Cannon-Hug- gins reunion held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Whitted in Asheville, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Oeland spent a few days last week at Montreat, N. C. IN WASHINGTON Friends of Miss Dolly Crouch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Crouch, will be interested to know she is spending two weeks In Washington, D. C., working in the office of Senator Strom Thur mond. Miss Crouch is president of the senior class at Winthrop College and has been a coun selor for the summer at Camp Romaca, Hinsdale, Mass. Mrs. C. M. Bailey and Mrs. W. L. Friends of Mrs. Louise McCart ney of Laurens, the former Miss Louise Horton of this city, and a member of the supervisory staff at Whitten Village, will regret to know she is ill and a patient at Self Memorial hospital, Green wood .Mrs. McCartney underwent surgery and is now improving. C. /LOSES FATHER Funeral services were held yes terday afternoon in Gainesville, Ga., for Ernest J. Shirley, 58. Mr. Shirley, the step-father of Dr. Dan Orr of this city, had been ill for some time and passed away Monday in a Gainesville hos pital Mrs. Max Spurlin and children of Columbus, Ga., were guests for several days of Mr. and Mrs Claude Crocker this week Calvin Cooper, David Boland, and Claude A. Crocker were visi tors in Georgetown the past week end to tour the paper mill there Mr. Cooper visited relatives in ! Conway during the week-end while Mr. Boland and Mr. Crock er were joined at Pawley’s Island by Mrs Crocker and children.
