Cannon on Thursday eve ning at the home of the class president, Harry A. Bouknight, Jr., and Mrs. Bouknight. Mrs. Cannon, who has taught the class for several years, moved Tuesday to Charleston. Decorating the living room were blue hydrangeas and in the dining room where the buffet re freshment table was appointed, daisies were flanked by lighted tapers in crystal holders. Cake squares, nuts and punch were served. Gifts to the Cannons from the class were a silver tray and compote. Former Qinton Girl To Wed In August Mr. and Mrs. William Halsell Roberts of Andalusia, Ala., for merly of Clinton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Dorothy Claire, of Montgomery, and First Lt. William Murry Al- dred, Jr., (USAF), Gunter Air Force Base, Montgomery, son of Mrs. Guy Ventron McKee and the late William MOrry Aid red of Durham, N. C. The wedding Is to take place August 26 in the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. Miss Roberts is a graduate of Andalusia High School and at tended Auburn University where she was a member of Phi Beta Phi social sorority. She is a sec retary in the purchasing office of St. Margaret’s Hospital, Mont gomery. Lt. Aldred was graduated from Durham High School and the University of North Carolina where he was a member of Lamb da Chi Alpha social fraternity. Entertain Following Wedding Rehearsal Mr. and Mrs. Milton King of Greenville, aunt and uncle of the bride, entertained at the Clinton Mills Community Building fol lowing the rehearsal on Satur day evening for the Reeder-Pitts wedding. Guests included the wedding party and out of town relatives and friends here for the occasion. Mrs. Wayne King, also of Greenville, assisted in the courte sies of entertaining. An all-white arrangement of gladioli and chrysanthemums centered the refreshments from which punch, cookies and nuts were served. MRS. ABBILL Miss Nancy Senn Weds Brunson Asbtll In Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church Miss Nancy Senn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Senn of Rt. 1, Laurens, became the bride of Brunson Asbill, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Asbill of this city, in a double ring ceremony at high noon on Sunday, June 18, at Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church. Dr. George Bellingrah, dean of Presbyterian CoUege, of ficiated. Miss Mary Cunningham rendered the wedding music. Mr. Asbill served as best man for his son. Bill Senn, brother of the bride, ushered the. mothers of couple to their reserved seats. The bride’s only attendant was her sister, Miss Edna Senn, who wore a dress of blue lace over taffeta ahd carried a fan-shaped bouquet of white carnations. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose for her wed ding a dress of peau de sole with chapel train. Her shoolder-leagth veil was attached to a crown em broidered in seed pearls aad she carried a white Bible topped with an orchid. The vows wan spoken against a background of palm* and ar rangements of white gladioli and wbito wedding bells forming the cen tral feature. After the ceremony, the couple greeted the, guests, while Miss Paula Crane presided over the bride’s book. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Asbill left for m two-weeks trip' to Florida. For travel, the bride wore an aqua dress with white accessories and the orchid lifted from her Bible. Upon their return, they will reside in the city. Mrs. Asbill is a graduate of the Laurens High School in the class of 1960 and bolds a position with Southern Underwriters in Laurens Mr. Asbill, a graduate of Clin ton High School and Clemson alumnus, Is employed by the Railway Express Company. Out of town guests included the sisters of the bridegroom, Mrs. Alvin Hampton of Greenville, and Mr*. James Neeley, with Mr. Neely and family of Marion; Wil liam W. Lilies centered the small tables appointed for a salad course and throughout the card rooms a va riety of summer flowers were beautifully arranged. The hostess remembered the bride-elect with a gift of china and a corsage of yellow rosebuds to wear for the occasion. Informal Parties For Visitor Here , A number of informal parties have been extended Mrs. Robert Stevens of Lexington Park, Md., who has been the guest of Mrs. Grace League Connor for the past week. On Thursday evening Mrs. R. W. Johnson entertained with a dinner party for eight honoring the visitor. Saturday evening Mrs. Stevens was feted with a cook-out at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill League. Mrs. Nene D. Workman and Mrs. Julian Coleman were host esses to eight for dinner Sunday at noon at the Mary Musgrove Hotel to honor Mrs. Stevens. Sunday afternoon several friends were invited to drop in at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George D. Ellis, Jr. Mrs. Connor accompanied Mrs. Stevens for several days this week to Biltmore and Cherokee, N. C., where they saw the pageant, “Un to These Hills.” Mrs. Stevens re turned home on Wednesday. Mrs. Oxner Gives Temperance Study A temperance study, “What Shall We Say About Alcohol,” was given by Mrs. Dewey Oxner on Wednesday evening of the past week to members of the circles of the Woman’s Missionary Society of the Associate Reformed Pres byterian Church. Mrs. Oxner, who is temperance secretary, presented the study at the prayer meeting hour. To Meet July 18th. The Ladies Golf Association of Lakeside Country Club will, hold their regular luncheon meeting July 18, with lunch to be served at 12:30. It has been announced that all golfers are invited to Fort Jack- son Thursday, July 11. Those de siring to go are asked to sign up at the pro shop no later than Sat urday, July g. Sunday Rites Unite Miss Reeder, Mr. Pitts The wedding of Miss Martha Joan Reeder and William Marvin Pitts, Jr., of Pendleton, took place Sunday afternoon, June 28, at 4 o’clock at the Calvary Bap tist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Burton Reeder of 800 Bailey Street, and the groom Is the eon of Mrs. Mar vin Pitts and the late Mr. Pitts of Rute 1, Laurens. Rev. J. W. Spillers heard the marriage vows. Miss Betty Sue Spillers was organist, and solists were A. D. Lancaster and Dorsey Turner. - - - The bride’s father gave her in marriage. Barbara Brown of Greenville, was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Phyllis Pitts of Laurens, lone Wilkes, Gloria Jackson, and Barbara Repko of GreenviUe. Vickie King of Greenville, was flower girl. The groom’s uncle. Walker Donnan of Laurens, was best man. Ushers were Jimmy Reed er, brother of the bride, Donald ; Jackson, Rudolph Blakely of Pensacola, Fla., and Fred Trayn ham of Laurens. The bride’s dress was made of bowknot lace over taffeta with sequins and pearls adorning the scoop neckline and transparent yoke. The full-length skirt extend ed into a chapel train. Her fin gertip veil was attached to a Chantilly lace cap with seed pearls and sequine. She carried a white satin covered Bible, a gift of the groom, showered in car nations. The attendants’ dresses of blue nylon organza with variegated embroidery were worn Over taf feta. They were street-length with cummerbund and back pan els. Their accessories were In matching shade and they carried cascade bouquets of blue french •d carnations. The flower girls wore white nylon organza with blue cummerbund fashioned simi lar to the other attendants. A reception was given at the Community Center. Later when the couple left for a trip to the mountains of North Carolina the bride wore a blue brocaded cot ton with white accessories and carnation corsage. When they return the couple will reside at 407 North St, An derson. The bride was graduated from Clinton High School in 1967 and from Furman University this year. The groom was graduated rom Hickory Tavern High School and Clemson CoUege. He is in a training program at Gerrish-MiUlken Mills in Pendle ton. Macy and Company, Incorporated. June Meeting of ARP Bible Class The June meeting of the Ladies’ Bible class of the Associate Re formed Presbyterian Church was held on Monday evening at the church. Mrs. A. B. Blakely led the pro gram entitled, “Salvation—What the Gospel Offers Man.” Hostesses for the meeting, Mrs. Bennie B. Cannon, who left this week for Charleston where he wUl serve as pastor at Trinity Church, the Woman’s Society of Christian Service and the Wesley an Guild entertained with a drop- in in Hodges Hall of Broad Street Methodist Church on Sunday af ternoon. Receiving with the Cannons and thier daughters, Catherine and Joey, was Mrs. S. C. Chaney. Jr., president of the organization. Punch, cheese biscuits, cookies and nuts were served. The refreshment table was beautifully appointed with roses in shades of pink and roses ar ranged in a large crystal compote and triple crystal candelabra holding white lighted tapers. Oth er arrangements in the hall in cluded yellow gladioli, a color ful mixed bouquet of zinnias. Queen Anne’s lace and gladioli, and yellow roses on the guest book table. Assisting Mrs. Hubert Pitts, who is fellowship chairman for the society, were members of the various circles and the Wesleyan Service Guild. The society and the Guild pre sented the Cannons with a silver pitcher. At their meeting later in the evening members of the Youth Fellowship remembered them with a gift of silver candlesticks. Miss Reeder Feted With Bridal Luncheon A bridal luncheon was given on Saturday for Miss Martha Joan Reeder by Mrs. Joe P. Terry and granddaughter. Miss Susan Terry, at hre home on Elizabeth street. In addition to the bridal attendants, Mrs. J. B. Reeder, mother of the bride, and Mrs. Marvin Pitts, of Laurens, mother of the groom, were invited for the occasion. A bouquet of roses centered the bride’s .table which was overlaid with a hand-made linen cutwork and embroidered cloth. Smaller tables for other guests were ap pointed with gardenias floating in crystal bowls. A two-course luncheon was served. Finney, Sr., gave a coca-cola party for her granddaughter, Miss Mollie Finney, and her guest. Miss Nancy Martin, of Myrtle Beach, who are visiting here. Eight friends were invited for an informal hour and refresh ments. Summer flowers in varied array decorated the party rooms. Sophie Young Has Birthday Party Sophie Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Lei and Young, was eleven yean old on June 28. She observed the occasion with a party on Saturday afternoon, in viting a few little friends. The group enjoyed swimming, and returned to the Young home where a picnic supper was served on the back lawn. The birthday cake, decorated in a circus mo tif, held lighted tapers.
