Mrs Eugene Rey nolds, and Mrs B W Cooper Prisoner Recaptured Laurens—Henry Peterson, one of two escapees from the Fed i eral Prison Camp at Donaldson ! Air Force Base, was picked up by Highway Patrol Cpl. Grady Jones at 10:30 p. m:, Monday. Peterson, who is from Council. N. C , was apprehended as he was walking on Highway 14 three miles north of Laurens. He was headed toward Laurens, accord ing to the patrolman. Cpl Jones said the man offered no resistance when he was ap proached Peterson was serving 15 months Students to Compete In Bus Rood-E-0 By Trecie Dtwls Members of the Clinton High School Transportation Club are participating in the Bus Drivers’ Road-E-O, the skill test, Satur day, May 29, in Uie CHS parking area. The first and second place win ners in the local contest and one of their bus patrols will go the state Road-E-0 May 19-20. The first place local winner will drive in the state Road-E-O with the local second place winner acting as one of his patrolmen. A girl bus driver from the Clinton Club will also accompany the group to | the state event in Columbia. Flor- ! ence and Georgetown will also ! be represented in the state event. Taking part in the local skill test will be Bill Wilson, Billy Brooks Owens, Wayne Morgan, Elaine Boyce, Veda Jester, and Jim Addison. Billy Teague, Kenneth Johnson, Jack Powell, Lonnie Farnell, and Julia Blackwell also plan to com pete in the Road-E-O Saturday. Also participating in the skill contest will be Carole Phillips, Mack Nabors, Bruce Morgan and j Carol Compton. Avery Smith is the director of transportation at CHS. Charles Burnette is helping with the Road-E-O 1 ^ Jimmy Pitts Signs University Of Ga. Pact Friends here of Jim Pitts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pitts, of Smyrna, Ga., formerly of this ; city will be interested to know he has won a basketball scholar ship to the University of Geor gia Described by his coach as the "finest player I have coached,’’ , Jim is a four year veteran and leading scorer for the last two seasons at Campbell High School where he plays forward In the last two seasons he has averag ed 20 points a game and has been named to the All County team twice, Region 4 AAA team twice and All-State team once. Bill Pitts, Jr., is also a stu dent at the University of Geor gia where he will be a pharmacy j senior next year. MISS PITTS CHOSEN STETSON HONOR SOCIETY Miss Jackie Pitts, rising sen ior at Stetson University in De land, Fla., was tapped last week into membership by Mortor Board, which is a national hon orary society for college women. Membership is based on leader ship, service and scholarship. Miss Pitts is a daughter of Mrs. James Pitts and the late Mr. Pitts. REGISTRATION Mrs. Jasper Rowland, director of the First Presbyterian Church kindergarten, stated that regis tration cards have been mailed to parents on the pre-registration list.
