EVERYDAY COUNSELOR By Blsbop Herbert Spmgb Do you think that our deceased loved ones ran see us and wtvat we • do? Dr George W Crane, a fellow , colmnist. is of the opinion that it is possible that they may see us at our best I go along w ith Dr Crane on this The new Testament teaches that consciousness continues after death. There is the case of the penitent thief on the cross who wss told by Jesus, ’Today shall thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23) The same idea of continuing conscious ness appears in the Parable of the of the Rich Man and the Beggar. (Luke 16). The writer of the Epistle of the Hebrews gave strong support to the same idea He likens a life to a race track inside of a great arena •++■+++++++++++++++++*++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++■++++*++++++ cif'M’lV ft I; tht [ '• '*U A li t FARMS... So every swimmer needs to have some safety rules in mind. The Red Cross is very active in this field They ^dfegest that an in flated inner tube with about a 40 foot piece of rope attached to it be kept at every swimming place for emergencies Also a long fishing pole that you might reach one with who is in distress. Other suggestions are If you can't swim, don't drift into deep water on a tube It might become deflated Learn to swim a little and then better Never swim alone Swim only in safe places, clearly marked Don't swim under a diving board, and look before you dive Never dive into unknown water, vou might hit a rock or a stump, or the water might not be deep enough J Don't uwim right after eating, when over heated, or very tired Stay out i of water during storms Try to keep calm if you get in trouble in the water, and float with face up. with hands and feet under water gently moving them to prniel you to safety This is a brief summary of water safety rule- carried in the National Grange Monthly And I might add, never go in a boat without a"1ife preserver. Many of our larm ponds were built for swimming So they carry unusual hazards like steep banks A ladder inserted there and weighted to the bottom is a good safety precaution • • • WEEVIL FIGHT The boll weevd fight is getting tight We are nearing the end of it. Our Max Sparks urges all who have made a fight so far to watch their cotton and continue poisoning a little longer where needed Making cotton now is mainly a battle with this bug And he has shown time and again that he can take the crop unless we are vigilant . '*? • • IMPROVING BEEF C ATTLE County Agent Outz figures Lau rens County hks more registered beef cattle than any other county in the stale. And they are doing something very definite about im proving them. Their performance testing program is underway with ovef a thousand cows. This was made possible by the Exchange Club and local farmers buying the necessary portable scales. These are in charge of Assistant County Agent H. L. Eason who supervises the weighings and recerd keeping. The poorer animals were weeded out. A cow must raise a good calf fast to stay in the herds. For in stance, McKenzie tells me it looks like they will have to extend the tent another 100 feet, to 500. to ac commodate the exhibits needing shelter Then acres of the outside will be covered with farm equip ment, truly ”A Million Dollar Dis play ” Here you can see the great est array of farm and home equip ment assembled anywhere in this part of the country And lectures, demonstrations, tours, and enter tainment will fill the busy days and on into the night Full details can be seen in advanced copies of the program at y«Hir county and home agent s offices. And you can get i your copy when you register Check ! I re ceived this as the eldest son. From the time I entered the min istry myw parents prayed together for me particularly when I came to the morning worship hour and into my pulpit. Isn’t it logical that if they would do that for me while they were here, they would do as much or more in the fuller life be- beyond'’ Each Sunday morning I wind up this watch and carry it into the pulpit as a beloved and sacred sym bol of the prayers of my parents, It gives me quite a lift. Personally* I feel quite confident that our lov^d ones who have gone over into the more immediate pres ence of our Lord have the privilege and opportunity of looking down to see how we “rub the race,” and help us with their prayers of en couragement. Like Dr. Crane, I feel that they see onily the best that we do, as they are happier over there than here Tennessee "Ernie” Ford * Show 1:15 to 1:30 Monday - Wednesday f Friday WLBG Sponsored By Your Ford — —■ -| * Dealer i -, BALDWIN MOTOR CO
