C, Thursdoy, August 18, 1960 > • x New Plant to Go Up at Laurens An architect’s sketch shows the 50,000 square foot building to be occupied by the American Lava Co., a subsidiary of the Min-< nesota Mining and Mfg. Co., to be built at Laurens. Grading of the site was completed some time ago and building operations were expected to begin this week. The plant is expected to begin manufacturing technical ceramics for the electronics industry' during the first half of 1961. The company’s opera tions in Laurens are expected to begin with 75 employees and an annual payroll of ap proximately $.‘130,000. Funeral Services Held Saturday for H. D. Michael Turner is chairman of the Laurens County division At a recent meeting of the Walter Johnson Club here, Mr Templeton pointed out that at present there are 163 members of the Club, 60 of whom are alumni of PC in this county. With this participation, $7,- 500 of the goal of $21,000 has been subscribed. Purpose of the meeting scheduled for Thursday night, according to Mr. Turner, is to contact the ap proximately 400 alumni in Laurens county who have not joined the Walter Johnson club. Mir. Turner also pointed out that of the funds previously donated, a large amount of the total was con tributed by Jocal merchants and oth er supporters of the club who are not PC alumni. It is the goal of the committee to contact all alumni in Aaurens County by the PC-Lenoir- Rhyne football season opener on September 24, according to Mr. Temuleton, who urges that all local alumni and other friends of the col lege attend the meeting.
