Goldsboro. 5-7. 6-1. 6-3 In the semi finals he lost to Stallings. 6-1. 3-6. 6-1 Earlier in the two weeks tour Sloan played in the Crackerlanrf'Open at Athens Ga August 10-16 There he got an upset win in the singles over Henry Kields of Athens, rated high in Southern tennis rankings, by score of 9 7. 6-3 In the doublets at .Athens he teamed with Edd Terrell of Bir mingham. Negro of the upper part of the county, died Thurs day afternoon from injuries inflict ed by a hit-and-run driver the pre vious Sunday night. Officers said that Sampson was walking along the Burbin Creek road near Fountain Inn when he was hit. : The injured man was found by Earl and Wayne Holcombe, son of Carl Holcombe, who lives near the scene.
