' Mrs. Fred Weinges led the pro gram on “Let’s Learn About,” with the Bible study from Peter given by Miss Lucile Smith. The meeting adjourned with the repeating of the mispah. Dr. and Mrs. Barnes Observe Forty-Third Anniversary Sunday Dr. and Mrs. Eric Barnes observ ed their forty-third wedding anni versary on Sunday, January 11, with a family gathering. Present for the occasion were their children, T. K. Barnes, Mrs. Barnes and sons, Kay and Eric, of Conway; C. E. Barnes, Mrs. Barnes and daughters, Laura Marie, Sara and Doris, of Burlington, N. C.; Mrs. Kenneth Matheson, Mr. Math- eson and children, Jennie and John, of Mooresville, N. C. Another son. Jack Barnes of New York, was un able to attend. Also attending were Dr. Barnes’ sister, Mrs. C. E. Flowers, his bro ther, B. K. Barnes, a niece, Mrs. Marion Waddy, of Augusta, G«. This group accepted K with enthusiasm. An acceptance test conducted by the Department of Food Technology and Human Nutrition at Clemson College also indicates that the pork- let is well liked. In the Clemson test, this pork product scored S.2 out of a posible 9 points when rated by a consumer type taste panel A. L. DuRant, leader, Clemson Livestock Extension Work, explains that the porklet is derived from the pork Boston butt. Slices from the Boston butt are cubed by machine much as a steak is cubed. This pro cess produces the porklet. which is about four inches square and »«tghs about four ounces uncooked Lean pork is very nutritious; it provides substantial amounts of protein, minerals, and vitamihs, particularly thiamine (vitamin Bl). A three and one-half ounce serv ing of pork provides approximate ly 69 per cent of the recommended daily allowance of thiamine for the average man.
