George Penland New Officers Say Road Maintenance Funds Are Exhausted The county’s appropriation of $25,000 for repair of surface-treat ed roads for the year ending) June 30, 1959 will be exhausted after paying outstanding bills; the $7,000 annual appropriation, for operating the county has only $1,000 left; and the fleet of county-owned trucks is in deplorable condition. The Commission reported that ap-. proximately half of the $90,000 road and bridge fund is on hand. “We are in good shape in that department,’ members said. But they reported that funds for repairing and maintaining surface- treated roads in the county present ed a different picture. Of the $25,000 appropriated for that purpose, only $9,000 remained on hand, with $11 000 in bills to pay. On the books is $1,000 in receivable accounts to help out, it was stated. H. L.
