Man Held Oh Check Count , Laurens—The office of Sheriff C. W. Wier reported Tuesday a man giving the name of Paul Sherwood Jones, of Atlanta, Ga., vwa.s being held in Laurens County Jail on check forgery charges. The man was using the name The Rev. J. Stanley Ryan on checks, ac ' cording to Sheriff Wier When in- I vestigating officer Wesley Fowler picked him up, he had 20 signed checks in his pocket A watchful storekeeper had be come suspicious after Jones had cashed a check in the WattsviUe store. Hie storekeeper called the sheriff's office giving the man's automobile license number. Jones had already 'cashed anoth er check in Laurens before he'was arrested. Sheriff Wier said that he had received calls from Woodruff and Spartanburg saying they had checks signed in the same way.
