Guy Coates Dies, Funeral On Tuesday Mountville — J. Guy Coates, 74. died at his home near Lake Green wood Moriday morning after a brief illness. I Mr. Coates was a native of Laur ens County where he spent most of his life. He was a member of Mount ville Baptist Church. His wife. Mrs Lucia Davis Coates, died in 1950. Surviving are four ‘daughters, Mrs. John M. Simmons, of Mount ville; Mrs. William H. Corbett, of Mountville, Rt 1; Mrs. W. Elbert Jones, of Columbia; Mrs. Charles F. Piper, of Oak Ridge, Tenn ; one son, W. Floyd Coates, of Columbia: one brother, J P. Coates, of Colum bia, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 3 p. m. at Gray Funeral Home in Clinton by the Rev. Ben jamin McTeer and Dr. William Redd Turner. Burial was in Mount ville Presbyterian Church cemetery. Pallbearers were B. P. Watts, John Pluss Dunlap, Roy Miller, James Goodwin, Edwin Alexander and Hubert Burns. Pulp And Paper Day To Be Observed By Paper Companies Pulp and paper companies in South Carolina will open their doors and gates on April 15 in ob servance of "Pulp and P-a p e r_ day." The program was instituted by the Southern Pulpwood Conserva tion Association for its members as a get-together with the citizens of the state to acquaint them with the forests, their products, and what they mean to the economy of the state. Jn participation of this program, the International Paper Company wil hold open house at their Delta w'ood yard in Union County, be tween Whitmire and Carlisle, from 10:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m., and ex tends an invitation to residents of this area to visit them.
