Presbyterian netters are paced by Johnny Brownlow of Cleveland, Ohio, 26th nationally ranked team captain, playing his final season. Shortstop Tony Benson of Chester, and Catcher Jimmy Newsome of Decatur, Ga., lead the diamond crew as co-captains. And the Blue Hose golfers are headed by Captain Albert Copelan of Mooresville, N. Forty-one claims were filed at the local office for the week ended March 15. which was eight less than the previous week In the state as a whole, total initial ejaims declined 415 from th^ week before, according to the report The largest declines m filing of initial claims for unemployment compensation occurred in Bennetts- ville ami Florence, which followed increases for the week before caused by layoffs in the furniture indus try Persons who have already filed initial claims and now are filing continued claims also showed a drop ot 991. moving down to 22,378 for the state The drop followed high points of temperary unemployment at sev eral points in the state, including, Spartanburg, in the textile and gar ment industries. L. Copeland, Jr . will sympathize with her in the death of her brother, Reuben F. Sims, of L'mon. Mr, Sims passed away last Thursday at a local hospital after a brief illnes-;. He was a teacher at ynjon High School. In addition to Mrs. Copeland, he is survived by another sister and several nieces and nephews. Services were held on .•riuay and burial was at the Heb run Baptist Church cemetery. Jr. The act creating the commission provided for terms of five years each, except for the first appoint ments, which were staggered so that appointments after one year would be one each year The Laurens County legislative delegation recommended • the ap- pomtrnTIJU, which were as follows: T D Pigg of Laurens, one year;} Troy W. The act creating the commission provides that it shall manage and control parks in the county where certain gifts of acreage have been made, but it was passed to meet the situation wherein the Champion Paper and Fibre Company pledged a deed to the county of about 50 acres on Lake Greenwood for park ’ purposes.
