Dessert Bridge For Thursday Club • Mrs. B. B. Ballard was hostess to members of her card club on Thursday for a dessert bridge and a number of afternoon games. ’> Two tables were appointed for refreshments and a sweet course, coffee and toasted nuts served. During the afternoon a number of progressions were enjoyed with club award going to Mrs. J. B. Arnold. Is Hostess To Actaean Club Friday afternoon at her home, “Capers Acres,” at Kinard, Mrs. George H. Brockenbrough enter tained the AOtaean club. An informal hour was enjoyed and later guests were invited into the dining room where salad and sweet courses were served. Vegetables and fruits, were used in colorful arrangement with greenery in the receiving rooms. Joint Hostesses • For Bridge Party Entertaining jointy Mrs. Wil- mot Shealy and Mrs. Roy Gasque were hostesses to members of their briddge club and additional friends on Thursday afternoon at the home of the former. Several progressions were made with Mrs. John W. Little high scorer for the visitors and Mrs. J. P. Rowland for the club. After cards the hostesses serv ed a salad and sweet plate. Camellias and narcissus were arrayed with greenery as a back ground. Entertains Club On Thursday Mrs. Hubert Boyd was hostess to members of her bridge club on Thursday for a number of after noon games. In a setting of camellias and gladioli two tables were appoint ed for refreshments and a des sert course was served when the guests arrived. Score prizes for the progressions which followed went to Mrs. James Addison and Mrs. R. P. Hamer. Pat Thomason . Celebrates Birthday Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 30, Pat Thomason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herschal Thomason, was given a party in celebration of her ninth birthday. Fifteen little friends, including members of her Blue Biijd group, ‘The CardinaLs,” were invited for the occasion . •. The girls enjoyed outdoor ac tivities, after which they were in r vifced into the dining room for re* freshments. The cake, iced in blue, was adorned with pink rose buds and candles. Matching cake squares were served with ice cream and each child was given a party horn. Entertains Choir Tuesday Evening Mrs. T. J/ Leake entertained merfTbers^of the choir of Broad Street Methodist church on Tues day evening at her home on South Broad street. ' N The receiving rooms of the home were lovely with gladioli, camellias and Methona magnolia. During the evening guests were invited into the dining room for refreshments of salad, cake, sand wiches, and dainties carrying otit a Valentine motif. Pink and red variegated carnations, silver can delabra holding lighted tapers fashioned a central decoration for the table. Baptist W. M. U. The afternoon group met at the church, with Mrs. George Bryson as leader of the Literature and Christian Education program. Discussing articles from the Sy nodical Journal were Mrs. George Watts Copeland and Miss Mar garet Blakely. Plans were madq for the Pres byterial which will meet here in April. . Later the hostess, Mrs. A. B. Blakely, served a sweet course and Russian tea Mrs. Ernest Hitt was hostess fo the evening circle at her home! on .Centennial street. Mrs. R. L. Pitts, who were recently mar ried, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Adair entertained with a dinner party on Saturday evening at their lakeside .cottage on Lake Green wood. Mb. and Mrs. L- O. Ed wards, formerly of High Point, N. C., who have moved to Clin ton to make their home, were also guests for the occasion. Camellias, white gladioli, na tive greens and berries added at tractiveness'of the cottage. A turkey dinner was served buf fet style to twenty four guests. Young, Jr , hostess Methodist Women Hold Mission Study Monday afternoon a mission study course for the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of Broad Street Methodist church was held at the home of Mrs. T. J. Leake. Mrs. Roy Gasque and Mrs. Jul ian Boll were in charge of the two phases of the program. “The Church’s Responsibility To Peo ple On The Move,” and “The Church's Responsibility To Peo ple In Families.” They were as sisted by Mrs. Allen Simmons, who gave the devotional. Mrs. Howard Smith and Mrs. Joe V. Edwards, Jr. Later the group was invited in to the dinfng room for refresh ments of tea, cakes, decorated in the Valentine motif, heart- shaped sandwiches and other dainties. Wednesday afternoon the study was held at the home of Mrs. Roy Gasque.
