Birth Ale and Mrs. Wade Quinn an nounce the birth of a son, James Randy on July 2$ at Donaldson Air, Force- Base hospital, Green ville. Mrs. Quinn is the former Miss Gensie Scott of this city. Kuykendall Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kuy J kendall are receiving congratu lations upon the arrival of a son, Gary Fran, at Hays hospital on July 30. Mrs. Kuykendall will be pleasantly remembered as Miss Vivian Hardman. Birthday Party Given Satyrday evening Mrs. A. E. Smith entertained a number of young people at her home honor ing her daughter, Arlis, who was celebrating her 10th birthday. A number of games were en joyed after which Mrs. Smith served cake, punch, cookies and potato chips. Each guest remembered Arlis wttfr~a~ gift on this occasion. 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. In the morning ha had teamed with Mrs. Seahrook to win the mixed doubles over Greenville’s Tommy Wyche and Pudy Iselen, 3-6, 8-6, 6-4. To mark the end of a beautiful day for Daniel, he joined Wyche to defeat defending champs Herb Browne of Columbia and Wilton McKinney of Greenville, 6-4, 6-0, 6-4. It was also a successful touma- ment for Mrs. Seabrook, who can ahnoset match her trophy collec tion against Daniel. It was Daniel’s 14th champion ship in the men’s singles division, ate record, Sam estimates that and, although there is no accur- his doubles titles slightly exceed that number. He first won the mixed doubles titles in 1937 and 1938, teaming with Sarah Rush- ton and his first- singles crown came in 1939. Since 1939 he has lost but once in the singles division, that being in 1950, when Umstadter upset him in the finals. Daniel battled through intense heat, 11 sets and 102 games to win the men’s singles title over 33-year-old Bill Umstaedter of Abbeville, and share the men’s doubles and mixed doubles titles.
