Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bragg and daughter, Lynne, were Sunday guests of the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brock in Laurens. Mr and Mrs. B. M. Coker of Eas- l«y, ‘.pent last week with their daughter, Mrs. Arthur League and Mr. League. On Saturday Mr. League and Ernest Floyd accom panied Mr. and Mrs. Coker to Eas ley upon their return home. Mr and Mrs. Glenn Carr visited their daughter, Miss Dorothy Carr, at Winthrop college in Rock Hill Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rhodes, Jim Millxn of Laurens, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lowery of Clinton, were Sun day -upper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hunnicutt and attended the Christmas play at Epworth Metho dist church. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Guest of Cross Hill, were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reeder. Kent Stroud, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grey Stroud, celebrated his 10th birthday on December 12. Jimmy Stewart of Wofford col lege, Spartanburg, visited his par- ente, Mr. and Mrs. Tot Stewart, over the week-end. Ray Bragg celebrated a birthday on December 14. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Gruber of Clinton, and grandson, James Dick erson, of the Navy, were recent din ner guests of Mrs. Colie Gruber and Mr. and Mrs. James Lovelace. Mrs. Dick Hueble and son. Woody, Mr. and Mrs. Nudie Bran non and children were Saturday visitors in Greenwood. Mrs. Frank Reeder attended the Christmas party and banquet of the cloth department at the Clinton Mills club house Saturday night. Mrs Reeder was the guest of Mrs. Myrtle Wallenzine. Sgt. Sweat! at Home Friends are delighted to see S- Sgt. Lester 5weatt at home for the holidays with Mrs. Sweatt and two small daughters. Sgt Sweatt has been in Korea for the past 14 months and received the citation of the Purple Heart twice while serving there. On January 18 he will leave for Camp LeJeune, N. C., where he will be stationed for the present. B&PW Club Has Christinas Party The Business and Professional Woman’s club Christmas party was held at Joanna club last Tuesday night with 40 present. Mrs. Dollie M. Carr and Mrs. Modeene Brazel were in charge of the table appoint ments and the Joanna Woman’s club served a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Many gay dances and songs were led by Mrs lone Wallace, chairman of enter tainment. For the business on the agenda, the club’s goodwill project was discussed and planned in de tail. Mrs. G. N. Foy was an invited guest of the club. * Turner-Keats Mr. and Mrs. Frank Turner an-, nounce the engagement of their daughter, Charleen, to Harold Alan Keats of Washington, D. C. The wedding will take place December 19 at Foundry Methodist church, Washington, D. C., at 5 o’clock. «- \ W. S. C. S. Met On Tuesday , Last Tuesday the Woman’* So ciety of Christian Service met in. the assembly room of Epworth church for their annual December meeting. , A brief business session was held and favorable reports! given. The program was presented by the program chairman, Mrs. Lavin- ia Cooley and the topic was “Grac ious Gifts are Given.” Assisting; Mrs. Cooley with discussions were' Mesdames J. C. Simpson, C. R. O’Dell, E. R. Prater and Lester Longshore. The highlight of the, program was a lovely worship cen-| ter with a Nativity scene in the| form of a musical box surrounded by hills and greens of Bethlehem In the closing moments of the program members brought a love offering to the manger for a gift to Lydia Methodist church building fund. The hostesses, Mrs. J. D. O’Dell, Mrs. Lester Longshore and Mrs. Hubert Godfrey, served a salad course with fruit cake and coffee. Intermediates Plan Party The Intermediate department of Epworth church will have its an nual Chritmas party tonight (Thurs-day) at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Prater on Laurens Road. Each girl is asked to bring a gift for a girl and each boy to bring a gift for a boy Miss Boxard Honored One of the loveliest parties of the Christmas season was for Miss Mil dred Bozard, bride-elect, at Jaonna club house last Thur^lay evening. The hostesses were a group of the honorees’ co-workers and the party was in the form of a miscellaneous shower. The decorations in the party rooms were beautiful and in keep ing with the season. In the foyer Mrs. John Henry Davenport, Jr., presided over the register. The. entertainment was directed by Mrs. Louis Murphy and Miss Ruth Hair The highlight .of the evening was a game that planned a week’s schedule for the bride-to- be. As the latter punctured a bal loon for each day in the week, she read expectations of a groom for a well organized household, with Sunday bringing a rest from all her labors and good wishes from her guest in the form of many attractive packages. Opening the packages, Miss Bozard found an assortment of useful household and personal it ems, among them many pieces of china and silver in her chosen pat terns. For refreshments, the honoree led the guests into the service room where Mrs. Nathan Brazel and Mrs. James Simpson presided over the punch bowl and refreshment table. White and green emphasized the bridal colors throughout the re freshment room. The table was cov ered in a white lace cloth and cen tered with a silver container hold ing white gladioli ^nd feathery . i ^nd f frond fern flanked by ^mming can dies A huge silver waiter' at one; end held dainty individual cakes, iced in green. Large silver trays; of party sandwiches, shaped in bridal emblems, potato chips, stuff ed olives fashioned in nosegay ar rangements, green mints and punch completed the refreshments. Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium Arena Again on Saturday afternoon Mis$ Bozard was hono-ed with a luncheon at the home of Mrs. James Sloan in Clinton. Places were laid for twenty-four in the Sloan home cn Maple street. The place carcL were small white Christmas trees and the individual salads were gay and perky Christmas tree molds in red holding garlands of green. A three-course luncheon with hot coffee was served. The honored guest was presented, a sterling silver footed nut contain er by the hostess. Assisting in entertaining were Mrs. E. B. Sloan. Misses Mary Ann Neighbors and Jane Todd . Mr. Sloan made pictures of the honoree and guests. Supt Delaney Entertains Saturday night at Joanna clubi house, J L. Delaney, general su- 1 periptendent of the Joanna plant, was‘host to the key men of the or ganization. A barbecued chicken dinner with all the extras was prepared and. served by Carroll Johnson and his helpers. I This Christmas party, with Mr. i Delaney as host, has come to be ' traditional in the community.
