Van Fleet is holding off his army retirement unt,il President-elect Eisenhower takes office and makes up his mind whether to “clobber the Commu nists” in Korea or go along with the present stalemate. This was learned in authoritative Tokyo quarters Wednesday. If Eisenhower decides to attack, after weighing the facts of his Ko rean tour against U. S. commitments to Europe, it was stated, then the Eighth Army commander wants to stay in harness and lead it.. " If Eisenhower decides against a spring offensive, Van Fleet will end his army career—in a frame of mind approaching chagrin—at the age of 60. CARD OF THANKS * e. Presbyterian’s principal weapon was free throws against the free- fouling Clemson team, but the 36 dropped in couldn’t balance off Clemson’s 28-14 advantage in field goals; Clemson’s close guarding kept the Presbyterian sharkshooters well away from the basket, and enabled the visiting quintet to dominate the backboards. Freshman Dave Thompson, Pres byterian star, bed-ridden before the game, played with an infected foot and wasn’t able to give him usual stellar performance. Center John McGraw, of Clemson, and forward Paul Nye of Presbyte rian, were leading scorers at 15 points each. Forwards Thompson and Clemson’s Marvin Robinson were runners-up with 14 each.
