Suther land, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. E. T. McClain. Miss Jean Layton of Greenville, is spending a week’s vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Layton. Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Hugh Eichelberger, Jr., and Carol Hart, students at McCallie, Chat tanooga, Tenn., spent the week end with their i parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Eichelberger here and Mr. and Mrs. ^. B. Cpl. Kenneth Idol, who has been stationed at San Luis Obispo, Cal., is spending a leave here with friends ana relatives. He leaves Saturday for Seattle for service in Korea. V. Sauls will leave the latter part of this week for a visit with relatives in Walterboro where he will celebrate a birthday on May 12. Mrs. R. B. Mrs. Fred Whitlock visited her sister, Miss Alice Thompson, in Whitmire last week. Mrs. C. V. Lipscombe leaves Fri day to join Captain Lipscombe in San Antonio, Texas. Capt. Lips combe, who has been in Okinawa, is here with the Far East boxers team which will compete at Kelly Air Field in the Worldwide Air Force tournament and at the Uni versity of Oklahoma. He expects to be in the states about 6 weeks and will accompany Mrs. Lips combe home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haynes and small son, Michael, of Dawson, Ga., are spending the week with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Gratz. Dr. and Mrs. John W. Harris leave tomorrow to attend the Flor ida State Beta convention in Jack sonville. They will be accompan ied by Dr. and Mrs. M. W.. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs, who will go from Jacksonville to Cuba. They will be joined in Cuba by Dr. Thornwell Jacobs. Dr. Brown will address a session of the convention. Sgt. Scott Dawkins of Camp Le- Jeune, N. Friends of James Austin Chand ler who has been employed in Den ver, Colo., will be interested to know he will be connected with the DuPont company in Augusta, Ga. He is spending the week here with his mother, Mrs. Austin Chandler, before beginning his new work. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold M. Cannon leave tomorrow for Charleston where they will be guests of friends for the week-end. Miss Nancy Jo Pruitt was the guest of friends in Whitmire Sun day. Friends of Mrs. Andrew Johnson will be interested to know she is re cuperating at home following an operation illness in a Columbia hos pital.
