Miss Betty Jo Hughes and Bill Poag of Greenville^ spent Sunday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Poag. Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Norton and son, Mrs. Lillie Henry and children, Miss Louise Hamby of Spartanburg, and Pvt. Ed Hamby of Fort Bragg, N. C., were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Morgan. * - Mrs. John Burnett, Sr., and Miss Georgia Lewis spent a few days last week in Gastonia, N. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Davenport, Jr., and Ronnie, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Francis visited Mr. and Mrs. Edward Leahman in Belton Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Willingham, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Murphy and children and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Murphy attended the Pitts family reunion in Silverstreet Saturday. Mrs. Jeanette Streetman and daughter of Newberry, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Baskley of Columbia, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Street- man Sunday. Rev. Fred Rowe Resigns Following the resignation of Rev. Fred Rowe, Rev. James Smith of Pickens county has been called to the pastorate of the Joanna Fire Baptized church. Rev. Smith will begin his services Sunday^ There will be no change in the hours of service it is announced. Surprise Birthday Dinner Mrs. Wilbur Russell of Ncwber ry, was surprised with a birthday dinner at Greenwood State park Sunday. • Dinner was served picnic style and the two-tiered birthday cake was pink and green on a white background with <48 burning candles. Mrs. Walter Fulmer gave the de- son Nabors and Miss Mary Free man. The table was overlaid in white and centered with a low arrange ment of mixed summer flowers, from which refreshments were served buffet style to the 30 guests who enjoyed this occasion. Birth Announcement Brunston Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Brunston of Davis Station, announce the birth of a son, Robert Joseph, on May 4 at the Manning hospital. Mrs. Brunston will be remembered as Miss Ellen Boyce of Joanna. With The Sick Mrs. C. A. Morgan has returned home following an illness and stay at the Blalock clinic. Norva Mae Allen is convalescing at home following a tonsilectomy at the Blalock clinic. A. W. Starnes is a patient at Hays hospital. C. W. Chandler is a patient at the local hospital for treatment. Mrs. Elizabeth Wallenzine un derwent sutgery at Joanna hospital recently. Arthur Starnes is a patient at Hays hospital. Woodrow Crouch is a patient at a Columbia hospital due to a se rious arm injury received in an au tomobile accident Saturday night Mrs. Beulah Stroud is suffering from £ crushed knee caip at Joanna hospital, which she received in a fall Sunday. Mrs. Sara O’Shields underwent surgery at the local hospital Mon day. Mrs. Edna Ballard underwent surgery at the hospital recently. Little Jeff Brock is confined to his home on Milton Road with an injured knee due to a fall. Meeting Recently members of the W. M. S. of the Baptist church came to gether for their May meeting with a good attendance. The interme diate girls auxiliary were guests of the society and preoented aji interesting program observing fo cus week under the leadership of Miss Ruth Hair, director. During the businesss session Mrs. E. J. Willingham, president, presid ed. Routine business was discuss ed and acted upon. , Refreshments of ice cream, sand wiches and drinks were served by Mesdames W. L. Hair, Rolfe Clark, W. W. Hair, and Jeff McCarthy.
