If as much as $100 of this gross in come of $600 or more was not sub ject to withholding tax. the taxpay er is required to file a declaration of estimated tax or his completed in come lax return not later than Jan than the crop in 1949 as the county planted approximately 11.000 acres less cotton in 1950 than was planted in 1949. There will be no cotton acreage control in 1951 as the government is calling for a 16 million bale cot ton production. It appears now that Laurens county will not plant any more acreage to cotton in 1951 than was planted in 1950 due to labor shortage, fertilizer, equipment, and tP not up-set the grassland farming program. Social Security for Agricultural Workers Beginning Jan. 1, farm people working for wages are covered un der the new social security known as the old age and survivors insur- In the case of fanners a declara tion of estimated tax need not be fil ed if the completed income tax re-1 turn is filed by January 31, but if; the completed return is not to bei filed by that date, a declaration must be tiled not later than Jan. IS. Others must file the income tax | return not later than March 15. Pen- j a 1 ties are imposed for failure to file! a declaration of estimated tax or an | income tax return within the time prescribed or if the estimated tax is less than 80 per cent of the actual tax liability, unless the estimate is based on 1949 income and 1950 ex emptions. The collectors will be at the Lau rens post office building Jan. 12 and 15, and March 6 through March 15.
