this year yielded more lint per acre'js
Each individual who had gross in-.
come of as much as $600 during the
calendar year 1950 is required to
file an income tax return, regardless
of the deductions or exemptions to
which he is entitled.
If as much as $100 of this gross in
come of $600 or more was not sub
ject to withholding tax. the taxpay
er is required to file a declaration of
estimated tax or his completed in
come lax return not later than Jan
than the crop in 1949 as the county
planted approximately 11.000 acres
less cotton in 1950 than was planted
in 1949.
There will be no cotton acreage
control in 1951 as the government
is calling for a 16 million bale cot
ton production. It appears now that
Laurens county will not plant any
more acreage to cotton in 1951 than
was planted in 1950 due to labor
shortage, fertilizer, equipment, and
tP not up-set the grassland farming
program.
Social Security for Agricultural
Workers
Beginning Jan. 1, farm people
working for wages are covered un
der the new social security known
as the old age and survivors insur-
In the case of fanners a declara
tion of estimated tax need not be fil
ed if the completed income tax re-1
turn is filed by January 31, but if;
the completed return is not to bei
filed by that date, a declaration must
be tiled not later than Jan. IS.
Others must file the income tax |
return not later than March 15. Pen- j
a 1 ties are imposed for failure to file!
a declaration of estimated tax or an |
income tax return within the time
prescribed or if the estimated tax is
less than 80 per cent of the actual
tax liability, unless the estimate is
based on 1949 income and 1950 ex
emptions.
The collectors will be at the Lau
