If you are living in a one-room apartment and want to make it look less like a bedroom and more like a living room, the trick is to make :t look like a studio simply by the use of clever slipcovering. If you really want to change the room into something new and dif ferent, be bold in your changes. Change Furniture Style Through Coverings If you are living in a one-room apartment and do not have the de sired bedroom, you can use a mat tress on box springs for a bed. To make the room look lese like a bed room, however, the bed should have a slipcover rather than a spread. For the bed, select a nubby or textured fabric in a color that goes well with the room. Inverted pleats can be used on all corners, and a tailored look should be the goal. Make the cushions very thick to re duce the size of the bed hhd thus achieve a sofa look. If space is at a premium, uphol stered "boxes can be covered in the same fabric as the bed itself and used for storing pillows, blankets and other goods. To give a room a really smooth look, slipcovers must be carefully measured and made. Zippers are popular now that. they are again available because they make the slipcovers easy to put on and the final result will be smoothness. The original shapes of chairs of which you have tired can be changed with clever slipcovering. If, for example, you have a wing chair, cover it with a gay plaid and a solid toned seat to match one of the darker colors in the plaid. This will keep the chair from showing dirt. For bedrooms and sewing rooms, wing chairs can be covered with floral prints or candy stripes. If you have household pets, it’s wise to mafce at least two sets of flounces that zipper on and off so that the flounce always will be neat and clean. Dining Room Chairs Can Be Brightened Few of us can afford a new dining room set as often as we would like, but slipcovering the chairs will save them for many a year. The seat can be slipcovered, a flounce added to hide the ungainly legs at least partly. The back also can be slipcovered with a piece that simply slips aver it. If you like, the chair and back cover can be made in one and tied at the back. The cover can be tailored or frilly, the latter on the edge, if you like. Add draperies either to match the chair covers or to contrast with them, and your din ing room will sport a new look.
