Concrete progress was made in the redrafting ^qf the court bill. A sub committee to which that task was given completed the job. Chairman McCarran, Democrat, Nevada, said it had been decided to omit provisions relating to bankrupt cy and receivership cases because of a general understanding that the bill would be limited to a few procedural reforms in the lower courts. These are to include direct appeal to the supreme court and authority for the attorney general to intervene when the constitutionality of an act of congress is challengod. Provision also is made for an increased number of lower court judges on a basis of demonstrated need, rather than of age. 1 eridix ojieration at the Greenwood < ho.spital last week.
