'Ihr yuint! ifirralii h. JORDAN Editor Dillon, S. C., August 21, 1?10. The tire business seems to have no slaclr season. Catching bootleggers is the world's new outdoor sport. o President vviison anu mc cu.a.v reminds one of a country school teacher and an unruly class of boys. "Money plentiful; high prices to remain," says a banker. We suspect that high prices will remain because money is plentiful. There is no turn in the road too abrupt to discourage some automobil-, ists from taking chances. Everything about operating a rail* road has advanced from 50 to 70 per cent. If the roads didn't have the ( government making up their deficits ^ just now they would be in bank-,' ruptcy. ' It is not likely that anyone will prge Mr. Blease to tell his reasons for J entering and then withdrawing from j the race for congress as an independent in the general election. He enter ed the race because he loves the limelight and he withdrew because he ( found that even his most enthusias- j ""innfiori, urnuU nnl follow him i m,iv auHyvuvio ? when he left the democratic party. ] Rest periods for workers are advocated by the National Industrial Con- ( ference Board, which says a ten- 1 wsinute period off a few times during ^ the day brings about a less waste | of time while at work and hence greater production. But it would be t impossible to prove to some hus- c bands that too many rest periods for their wives results in a better meal. Somebody said capital is entitled i to a living wage. But we have heard j men talk who seemed to think that capital was of no value to the industry at all, when as a matter of fact if it had not been for the enterprise of some man or- group of men owning capital they would be out of a job. Capital is as necessary as labor and tools. Let no one get the notion ' that the man who handles the tool is everything. Sensible workmen don't' think so, but professional agitators easily mislead the unthinking. Ite.sult in Charleston Uncertain, j ,< The vote between Hyde and Grace . in the race for mayor of Charleston < is so close that an official count will be necessary to decide the winner. Yesterday's morning's papers said there were only 25 votes between the | candidates. The Charleston Ameri-ij can, the Grace official organ, claims! Grace's election, while the News and Courier said Hyde was leading with three boxes yet to hear from. o 2NOTICE.
