It was with mingled feelings of surprise and pain that we heard this morning of the death of the Hon. Geo. W. Dargan, which took place, we understand, in the early morning at his home at Darling ton. His friends knew of his declin ing health, but as he had often ral lied when feeble, they hoped to see again his cheery face and hear his kindly greeting. He had many friends in this part of the old coun ty of Darlington, who will greatly feel his loss as a citizen, lawyer and friend. But his loss goes further. Ever since reconstruction days his services to the State and country have been eminent and conspicuous, as counsellor in those , days on the forum, as solicitor of i the 4th circuit and as repiesenta- tive from this Congressional Dis trict. » He was a brilliant man, a great student of history, and a writer of recognized ability in the field of history and politics. • We extend to his bereaved fanii- ly and friends our sincerest sym pathies. , of June A.
